$1050/mo + utilities. Large room plus a large private porch.
1 year lease, month-to-month thereafter. Available immediately for leases starting anytime within 30 days. For the moment we will allow leases as short as 6 months in special circumstances and for an additional cost. Please be in touch for details if that applies to you.

Open Houses:
We will have open houses weekly (often on Sunday evenings) until the room is rented. We will let you know when the next open house is.

The Green Elephant, a rowhouse in lovely NE Petworth/Fort Totten, is looking for someone to join our community. We enjoy watching movies together and hanging out in the yard when we can. We value open communication and a clean house. Occupations of folks in the house (who are in their mid 20s to 30s) have been non-profit work, education, and legal aid. We seek to provide a safe space for everyone, believe Black Lives Matter and have created a friendly environment for a diversity of Queer people.

The Green Elephant is a cozy corner row house we all have made into our home. We share a big dining area, a tv area, and the kitchen which has two fridges, a gas range, and a dishwasher. There is hardwood flooring throughout the first and second floors. Laundry is shared in the basement. There is no smoking inside but we are *20 friendly. We have 2 cats in the house (sorry, but we can only have 2 cats maximum in the house). Outside, there's a huge yard with gardening beds and 2 shared parking spots out back.

The house is located just an 11-minute walk from Fort Totten metro station, which has the red, yellow and green lines. Less than a block away is the 64 bus stop, which takes you down to places like The Coupe, Wonderland Ballroom, U St, and Chinatown. It's a short walk to the Avenue supermarket, Jackie Lee's, La Coop coffee shop, and CVS. It is also less than a mile away to Walmart and local breweries. There is ample street parking, and with a D. C. registration, you can get a 4D zone sticker if you have a car. Utilities are not included. Gas, Water, Electric, and Internet vary, but average about $105/month for each housemate.

The Process:

This is the landlord listing this ad — your information will be shared with the housemates and they will meet you during the open house, show you the room and the house, and do an informal interview. If you are not in town we can do a video call, please send your preferred video platform and instructions. The housemates will invite people to apply. The landlord does a credit check, income verification and leasing history.

Approximate qualification guidelines from landlord:
— Minimum gross annual income $42,000
— Credit score: 650 or higher.
— Good leasing history.
