Baltimore is the top city for tech
Silicon Valley may have a reputation as the tech capital of the US, but according to new data from roommate site SpareRoom, that's not the best place to go to find other like-minded tech enthusiasts.
The top tech cities are:
Baltimore, MD
Boston, MA
Seattle, WA
Dallas, TX
Las Vegas, NV
SpareRoom analyzed data based on what over 47,000 roommates listed as their interests. The cities you might expect to top the list, like San Francisco, New York and Austin, don't come out as winners. New York even appears in the 5 cities least focussed on tech.
These are the cities whose residents are least interested in tech:
Virginia Beach, VA
Miami, FL
Los Angeles, CA
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
Matt Hutchinson, spokesperson for SpareRoom comments: “San Francisco and New York might historically be key cities for tech, but they also have some of the most expensive rents in the US. So it's no surprise people interested in tech are heading to cheaper cities.
Choosing Las Vegas over New York will save the average roommate $678 on rent every month - that's a huge $8,163 a year.
