Atlanta is the top city for foodies

New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles might have the most Michelin stars in the US, but according to new data from roommate site SpareRoom, that’s not where you’ll find the real foodies.

The top foodie cities, according to the study, are:

  1. Atlanta, GA
  2. Virginia Beach, VA
  3. Portland, OR
  4. San Antonio, TX
  5. Philadelphia, PA

SpareRoom analyzed data based on what over 47,000 roommates listed as their interests and found that fine dining isn’t always top of the menu. In fact, not only are the cities with the most Michelin stars not the foodies’ favorites, they actually came out bottom of the list.

Out of 25 leading metro areas, these were least food obsessed:

  1. Los Angeles, CA
  2. New York, NY
  3. Orlando, FL
  4. Miami, FL
  5. Boston, MA

San Francisco fared only slightly better, coming in 20th, while Philadelphia, home of the cheesesteak, came in 5th.

Matt Hutchinson, spokesperson for SpareRoom comments: “When you live with people, cooking and eating together is one of the best ways to create a happy house. So it’s no wonder America’s roommates list food as one of their top interests. But maybe it’s less about Michelin stars than it is about sharing a meal and an experience.”
