San Diego is the most active US city

March 2024 - New York may have been ranked the ‘Most Walkable’ city in the US in a recent study*, yet surprisingly it ranked the least active city according to recent data from roommate site SpareRoom. In fact, San Diego tops the list of cities whose roommates are most active.

The most active cities are:

  1. San Diego, CA
  2. Tampa, FL
  3. Denver, CO
  4. Charlotte NC
  5. Miami, FL

SpareRoom analyzed data based on what over 47,000 roommates listed as their interests. It revealed that active people seeking like-minded roommates are better off searching in San Diego, Tampa or Denver.

These are the cities whose roommates are least active:

  1. New York, NY
  2. Philadelphia, PA
  3. Raleigh, NC
  4. Chicago, IL
  5. Detroit, MI

Matt Hutchinson, SpareRoom spokesperson comments:“It’s not surprising that America’s ‘finest city’, San Diego, has the most active roommates as the weather is ideal for being outdoors all year round.

If being active is important to your lifestyle, having roommates who share similar values can be a huge benefit. Going for a morning run or enjoying a hike at the weekend can be a great way to bond with people.”
