Room for Rent - Praxis Collaborative Chicago

Praxis Collaborative Chicago is shared housing located in the Uptown neighborhood. The mission of Praxis Collaborative is to provide affordable housing for folks involved with social justice and social service work or volunteering. Examples of people living at Praxis includes students, professors, labor and political organizers, social service professionals, healthcare workers, lawyers, authors, AmeriCorps participants, nonprofit workers, people actively volunteering for social justice causes, and more. Praxis is composed of a diverse group of people with various racial, ethnic, national, religious, generational, and political backgrounds, and is open to families.

Praxis has over 10,000 square feet of space and has an average capacity of 18-20 people. We have plenty of common rooms available: 2 kitchens, library, recreational room, multi-media room, shared office space, bike storage room, and music room. Private bedrooms can come furnished or unfurnished. The space is accessible by public transportation (about a half mile from the red line and directly in front of the 151 Sheridan bus). We are close to Montrose Beach and shopping.

Praxis aims to be a comfortable place to call home for people doing the challenging work of helping others or creating social change. In terms of community, Praxis provides the best of both worlds - we respect everyone's privacy and there are so many common spaces that it is always possible to be alone. At the same time, there is usually someone around to have a conversation with or to invite to play a game or watch a movie or a show.

Praxis’ rent is $650 per month and includes all utilities, wifi, and communal grocery expenses. There is an additional $650 security deposit due before move-in which is refundable after a resident's departure from Praxis. To keep Praxis affordable for families, rooms for children are available at a reduced rate.

Praxis' current residential contracts can be provided anywhere from a 3-12 month non-member residential period. After living at Praxis for 6 months, residents have the option to apply to become members, allowing them to participate in collective decision making on finances, accepting new residents, and house policies.
