Looking for A New Housemate!

Hello! My name is Kira and I have lived in a communal house in North Cap Hill for nearly 10 years! I have more or less been managing the community for the past 6 years. There are 6 of us in total, including my ESA dog. One of our tenants is moving back to Wisconsin to complete grad school, and we are looking for someone to take her spot on the lease, which ends April 30, 2027. We have become best friends over the past 3 years and I am sad to see her go! The available room is in the daylight basement, shared with me and my dog. This is the smallest room in the house, and that is reflected in the price. We are at capacity for our lease and can only accommodate 1 tenant, which means we cannot consider couples.

Our main floor is where you can find the kitchen, dining room, living room, storage room, and back deck. The second floor has 4 other tenants, and one of the rooms has an attic level with a balcony with a very Seattle view. Together, we are a community of compassionate and considerate folks and we are looking for someone who will mesh well with our pre-existing community. For me, it is important to find someone who loves dogs and wants to live with a dog, but has no pets of their own. It’s a bonus when people have experience living with rescue dogs. We have learned through trial and error that she cannot peacefully live in a home with other pets, so we cannot consider anyone with pets. This also won't be a good fit if you are nervous around dogs or barking or want to bring dogs over often.

It's also important to us that we find someone who has experience living with others, experience paying their rent and utilities on time and unprompted, someone who is 420 friendly, who communicates clearly and kindly, who cares about regularly contributing to a household, and who is committed to creating a peaceful sanctuary we can all call home.

About the Room:
- Available August 1
- Lease takeover until April 30, 2027 with possibility to renew
- $805/month
- First month + $958 security deposit to move in
- 12 x 14 ft
- Two small hopper windows - minimal indirect sunlight = cool, dark, & cozy
- Shares basement level bathroom, livingroom, storage, and entrance with 1 other

About the House:
- 3-story house with a daylight basement
- 5 current human residents + 1 dog
- Utilities ~$120/month (some bills are every other month, and utilities tend to rise in the winter and fall in the summer)
- Fully furnished, plant and sun-filled communal dining room and living room with working fireplace
- Large kitchen with a separate storage closet for appliances and bulk items
- Washer/dryer in the basement
- Storage/bike room on the main floor
- Outdoor spaces: small fenced front yard, furnished back patio with container garden, communal balcony with a Space Needle view
- On the #49 bus line
- Free street parking
- Accessibility note: All entrances have steps. The house is not wheelchair accessible.
- Scent note: We burn candles, incense, and herbs regularly and are not able to make the home scent-free.
- All vaping and smoking done outside. We enjoy occasional alcoholic beverages, but are in no way a party house. This is not open to change.

About Us:
Values-wise, we are an anti-racist, LGBTQ+, firearm-free, and vaccinated household. Our current housemates include:

An international tech worker with a passion for knitting & languages (35, she/her)

An Olympia-born trade worker with a love for culinary arts and trivia (35, he/him)

A postpartum doula and psychology grad student from the midwest with a passion for animals & nature (37, she/her, queer, vegan)

A Seattle native payroll auditor with a love for baking and connecting over coffee (23, she/her)

A drama teacher/server from California with a love for movies and exploring the city (28, she/her)

And a 7-year-old rescue pup from Costa Rica (40 lbs, Shepherd/Collie mix) whose main passions include cuddles, treats, and protecting the house from squirrels & mail carriers

We keep our home clean and running smoothly with a rotating chore chart and hold 3–4 house meetings per year to make sure we're all on the same page. Someone who is familiar with the seasonal needs of a large, multi-level house would be an excellent fit. Some of the less-frequently performed chores involve outdoor yard work. While we have varying schedules, we are a generally quiet household and respect quiet hours based on a 9–5 workweek.

Our home is social but low-key — we enjoy organically connecting in common areas when we're not in a rush or just waking up. Most of us travel for several weeks or months throughout the year, so it's rare we're all home at once. When we do get the chance to gather, we enjoy cooking (often separately but together), gardening, crafting, puzzles, art, fires, TV, listening to music, dancing, singing, playing instruments, yoga, meditation, and good conversations over wine or cider. We also love live music, camping, musical theater, and hosting friends and family while being mindful of shared spaces.
