We are searching for a housemate to move into our two-story, 3,300 square foot, 100-year-old house in Old West Austin ? in what is commonly called the Clarksville neighborhood. A covered porch stretches across the front of the house and looks out onto the front lawn, which is shaded much of the time by the large trees on the block. The fenced-in backyard has two raised garden beds and features a beautiful live oak tree, much older than the house itself. Two parking spaces sit behind the house.

The neighborhood:

The neighborhood is family-oriented, relaxing, and peaceful. Mathews Elementary sits on West Lynn, and the West Austin Neighborhood Park is just down the street. The house is very close to downtown and only a stone?s throw from Clarksville. You can easily stroll to Fresh Plus grocery store, Nau?s Pharmacy, Taco Flats, Jeffrey?s Restaurant, Caff? Medici, Pease Park, and the real Clarksville neighborhood in less than 5 minutes. You can walk to 24 Diner, Counter Caf?, Whole Foods, or Book People in less than 20 minutes. The Austin Public Library, Deep Eddy Swimming Pool, Lady Bird Lake, Zilker Park, and Barton Springs are all less than a 20-minute bike ride away. In this neighborhood with all its wonderful features, it's nearly impossible to find a living situation this amazing for only $850!

The house:

The house has 9-foot ceilings and hardwood floors throughout. There are 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms - two of the bathrooms are shared. The house has a living room with a functioning fireplace, a dining room with French doors, a TV room, a laundry area with a working washer and dryer, and a library that doubles as a storage area. The house is fully furnished, except for your room.

Perhaps the best feature of the house is its large kitchen with two full-sized ranges and ovens. In addition to plenty of counter space, a large 4 x 8 ft bi-level island sits in the center of the kitchen. Half of the island has a polished granite surface; the other half has a raised wooden butcher block surface. At one end of the kitchen sits a wooden bar with stools. The kitchen is well-stocked with silverware, pots, pans, dishes, and glassware, which we all share.

Your room, $850/month, August 1st (or later) move-in:

Your room is a large (12.5? x 13.5?), 170 ft^2, first-floor bedroom. Your bedroom, like the rest of the house, features beautiful hardwood floors; two north-facing windows; and a buoyant 9-foot ceiling with a ceiling fan. The Tardis-like closet is larger than it appears from the outside. This walk-in closet has 16-square feet of floor space and two tiers of rods for hanging clothes. Given the layout of the house, this is the most quiet and peaceful bedroom - of five - in a habitually quiet and peaceful home. The room shares a bathroom with the bedroom directly opposite.

Your rent, lease, and additional expenses:

? The rent for your room would be $850 per month due on the first of each month. Again, this price point is amazing for this part of town! We?re looking for someone to sign a year's lease, which runs from August 1st, 2020 to July 31st, 2021. The landlord requires a security deposit of $850 before moving in. The landlord is nice, but almost never visits ? he lives in Houston.

? The landlord will collect a fee of $40 to do a background and credit check.

? Your share of household bills, including electricity, water, gas, and internet, ranges from $125 in the cool winter months to $185 in the hot summer months.

About your housemates:

Our ages range from mid-20's to mid-50's. Currently, there are three men and one woman living in the house. Also, two adorable cats, Tres Leches and G?teau, come pre-installed, but sadly, we cannot accept additional pets. The humans who live here include an elementary school teacher, a landscape designer, a part-time Austin Pets Alive! employee, a poet, a chemistry graduate student, a painter, a future high school teacher, a playwright, an amateur chef, a gardener, and a financial analyst. As you can probably guess, some of us follow more than one passion. We have a variety of interests and activities in the house, including cooking, listening to music, relaxing with a cocktail or glass of wine, watching movies, gardening, hosting dinner parties, playing board games, etc. Each of us also has interests outside the house, whenever COVID permits. Most importantly, none of us knew each other before moving into the house, but we have been able to create a relaxed, welcoming, and peaceful home.

About you:

You are comfortable living with an eclectic group of people. You are mature, responsible, easy-going, LGBTQ & BLM friendly, and kind. You are willing to share house responsibilities and chores. You are comfortable sharing some social activities with your housemates, but you also have your own interests outside the house. You are respectful of personal space, shared space, and shared house items, and you do not smoke. You are willing to collaborate with everyone to make this a safe, peaceful, and comfortable home.
