Rental Space Information
Backwater is currently home to four residents, and we are looking for one more! We are looking for a roommate who is interested in occupying a room on the top floor.
The room comes with ample storage space, and plentiful windows, which provide brilliant light throughout the day. The room measures roughly 10 feet x17.5 feet This room has a walk-in closet in addition to separate built-in closet with shelving.
Rent & Utilities
Rental amount for the room is $1,200 monthly with a one-time $1,200 deposit fee which can be paid over the course of two months if needed. Rent includes utilities and Internet. In addition to rent we pay $5 dollars monthly to cover cost of shared drinking water, and we rotate buying shared resources, such as paper towels, dish soap, light bulbs, etc. While there are no washer/dryers on site, there are two laundromats located down the street - about a minute drive away.
Community Culture
The kitchen is a shared space which is stocked with spices, cooking utensils and a variety of different cookware and past residents have often enjoyed sharing meals together. We also divide up chores equally amongst everyone in the house. The house functions as an art gallery and has historically been a place that hosts community art and music show whether to raise money for community art initiatives such as the Grocery Outlet Mural located on 7th and San Fernando in downtown - or even just to provide a space for community members to come enjoy and appreciate local musicians and artists.
Commute Info
Plenty of free on-site parking. Commute times are short to freeways (CA-87, 280, 101), an easy bike ride to downtown San Jose and, if you use public transit, Bus 73 can be picked up at the end of the street. We are a five-minute drive from the shopping plaza "The Plant" and right across the street from Costco.
Additional Information
The house was built circa 1875 - making her very old! This fact means that the house does require special attention and needs to be looked after carefully. Tenants are expected to contribute to the safekeeping of the house, finish weekly chores, and to participate within the community. We occasionally host art events. We are seeking a tenant that are community oriented and want to be part of something special.
