We have a huge (270 square foot) basement that I only ever use to unobtrusively store boxes of my book translations along the wall. So now we're renting it! It's PERFECT as a live-in art studio, as previous tenants have done, since there's a giant kitchen-industrial table and plenty of pantry storage about the sink as well.
There's a very nice queen mattress and frame, plus a cute meal nook table and chair with standing lamp area I set up. Mini-fridge is next to large sink, and there are tons of power outlets if you want a hot plate, electric kettle, etc. Separate entrance is through the storm door.
My husband Nicholas and I are a very mellow couple in our forties who love art, cooking, music, film, walks, museums, animals (there's a cat!), and I'm personally very good with plants. He's a working actor (the very chill when at home kind) and I have been a novelist since 2008. We adore books and have a Little Free Library out front.
Our upstairs renter is a musical-obsessed natural healer, who is excitedly exploring his new home of New York while looking for the man of his dreams, so he's very unobtrusive. My husband and I are also queer spectrum (demi and pan, respectively).
The whole house including extensive library (I'm getting sent books all the time) is at your disposal; kitchen (use all the gadgets!) is on the ground floor with the living area, and bathroom is on second floor with the office.
Ridgewood is a brilliant neighborhood! We're a five minute walk from the Halsey L stop, surrounded by groceries and restaurants and food trucks, and two blocks away (separate directions) from the two main commercial drags. All of our neighbors are lovely--I've lived here for 14 years and find it the perfect spot, and if you want to shoot over to Union Square it takes about half an hour.
We need a clean, respectful roommate who understands that we use this as a live/work space and gets along with the cat. Looking forward to meeting you!
