Large bedroom in Astoria duplex with private backyard — $1,350/month

We’ve got a large upstairs bedroom available in our 3 bed, 2 bath duplex in Astoria. It’s unfurnished, with a big window looking into the backyard and an in-wall AC unit. The apartment is in a well-kept six-unit building, with laundry in the building.

There are two bedrooms, a bathroom and the kitchen upstairs. You’d be sharing the upstairs bathroom with Dumarys, who has the other upstairs room. Downstairs is Colin’s bedroom, an office/guest room, another bathroom, the shared living room and access to the backyard.

We have a HUGE private backyard, which is a lovely escape from the noise and bustle of the city. There’s a raised garden bed, and you’re welcome and encouraged to get involved or do your own gardening. In the warmer months we grow herbs and vegetables and have the occasional BBQ. We have a smoker and a kettle grill, so we’re pretty well equipped 🙂

We’re on a quiet, tree-lined street near the 30th Avenue N/W stop, about 15–20 minutes to Manhattan by subway, with several bus lines nearby too. Broadway is within walking distance, and there are tons of bars, restaurants and little shops around. Grocery stores, gyms, dry cleaners and the other everyday essentials are all close by.

A little about us: we’re Colin and Dumarys. Colin works in tech, and Dumarys is a graphic designer. We’re both pretty chill and enjoy cooking, listening to music, watching movies and the occasional board game night. In the summer, we spend time gardening and having friends over in the backyard. We like hanging out together, but there’s plenty of space to do your own thing, and it’s completely fine if you prefer keeping to yourself.

We’re friendly and social, but it’s not a party house. We want it to be a relaxing place to come home to. We’re not clean freaks, but we do clean up right after cooking and expect everyone to pitch in with chores. Just be mindful of the other people living here and leave shared spaces in good shape for the next person.

We also have two very lovable dogs: a Golden Retriever and a Husky. They’re both well trained and love people, so you definitely need to enjoy living with dogs! There’s some shedding, but we have robot vacuums upstairs and downstairs that help a lot with dog hair and general cleanliness.
