Hey musicians & creatives! We have one room available Jan 1st 2025 in this small Fishtown rowhome with amazing location.
The room is only $500/mo, plus your portion of utilities (1/3 of gas, electric & internet ≈ $200/mo).
This is an amazingly low price for a great location in a highly-sought-after neighborhood! However, the room is so inexpensive because it is VERY SMALL.

THIS IS THE HOME OF A LOUD PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN. I PRACTICE INSTRUMENTS DAILY ANYTIME BETWEEN 3PM - 10PM, AND OCCASIONALLY DJ ELECTRONIC MUSIC AT HIGH VOLUMES. I may also record or edit original music productions while looping the same few bars of a song in a DAW repetitively for hours on end.
We are looking for a music student or fellow professional musician who needs a safe space to practice a loud instrument and will not mind the volume. (In reality, the music practice / production / DJing is not that frequent or loud; however, it does happen, and it is important to me to make these expectations clear from the start: this is my livelihood and occasional loud music is non-negotiable.)

The room for rent is located on the second floor, adjacent to another bedroom and the house's single (shared) bathroom. It is very small, approx. 12x9 ft square feet with a small closet, with a single large window looking out into the backyard, so there is lots of natural lighting. This room is just big enough to fit a full-size bed and a desk, with a little room to move around.

The other two bedrooms are occupied by myself and Roomate#2, see below for a description of us. I'm the only tenant on the lease, and I'm in the third floor bedroom.

The house has a washer & dryer in a large basement, where there is also dry storage space you can use.
There is a medium-sized backyard with seating for relaxing outside and a charcoal grill.
The house is decorated with musical instruments from around the world and framed art.
The living room contains a huge fish tank with very large, lovely fish. I also have a beautiful adult cat named Cossette who is getting old and meows loudly all the time.
This house is sunny with LOTS of big plants, there are about 15 beautiful plants throughout the common areas keeping the space feeling green and refreshing.

The house is located on Oxford Street near the corner of Frankford Ave. As such, it is directly between Girard Station and Berks Station on the Market Frankford Line, about a 4 block walk to either station. Numerous busses (like the 25) and trollies (like the 15) nearby connect you to anywhere else in the city.
This house is just a short 7 min ride from downtown/center city, making Lyft & Uber fares cheap to get to & from home!
Nearby is both an Acme and Giant at 2nd & Girard for grocery shopping, as well as a Wine & Spirits.
Right within the neighborhood is a plethora of awesome music venues, bars, clubs and restaurants, all within walking distance. This is the city's hotspot for amazing food and musical entertainment.

All that is needed to move in is three month's rent (first, last, security deposit) for a total of $1500.
Rent is paid to me directly and due by the 25th of each month (as per our lease).
Utilities include Electricity, Gas, Water and Internet. These four bills are split evenly by the house's roommates each month. Generally, the combined cost of these bills is about $200/person each month.

About us (your new roommates):

I'm 41 years old, Caucasian cis male. I'm a musician (saxophone player) with the complex schedule of a creative professional: I teach music at a public school, have frequent evening gigs, produce digital media, and direct two bands.
Roommate #2 is 30 years old, African-American queer-identifying male (self-described "bear"). He is an event producer for queer & LGBTQ events in the city and works at a large popular venue downtown. When he's home, he hangs out in his room and watches TV etc. He is VERY sweet, gentle and considerate, enjoys chatting in the common areas, and is easy to get along with.

I use the space to produce digital music, practice instruments and teach music lessons from the living room, so sometimes there is LOUD MUSIC in the house, and I consider this one of the only "non-negotiables" that should be understood by potential tenants, as it is my career and livelihood. We are hoping to find another musician who understands our work environment and is looking for the same thing. If you're not a musician, no worries, just understand I might be playing instruments loudly in the afternoons & evenings, and that is non-negotiable (however I'm a jazz saxophonist with a music degree so it ain't that bad to listen to).

We both frequently cook large meals in the kitchen. I have overnight guests stay in my room fairly often. I burn incense in the house and often smoke 420 in the kitchen and living room (common areas). I almost always have music playing from a stereo or speaker. Roommate #2 likes to blast his soul, RnB & house music from his bedroom and it definitely thumps!

We are both progressive, friendly creatives with a "woke-ish" perspective on life. There is not a single ounce of toxic masculinity in this home. We have created a wonderful space where we have great communication and respect. We are hoping to find someone who can fit into this relaxed, communicative and respectful home environment along with us.
This house is a welcome place for all kinds of people, of all ethnicities, any sexual orientation, any gender identity, and any religious faith.
We split the house cleaning chores evenly with the use of a chore-sharing app on our phones: each job rotates person, on a timed basis. Anyone who moves in will need to agree to split the house chores by joining the app and doing their fare share when it is your turn. We are all adults and we all take equal responsibility for keeping the house clean and looking nice.

I've been living with roommates for over 17 years and have enough experience that I hope I can describe myself as a "good roommate" at this point. If there is any issue, we can just talk it out and come to a compromise that works for everybody
