Rad family house share
Hey babes. We are currently 2 adults and a freaky lil 5-year-old child with 2 small dogs, looking to rent a room+++. One adult is moving out with the dogs, probably sometime in the next few months. Looking for some radically wonderful individual/s to move in and share our space with us starting next month. $750/mo + utilities for a room and some storage.
The house - one side of a West Philly twin, with 4 rooms upstairs, enclosed front and back porches, and a partly finished basement, two blocks off the 34 trolley and about a 15 minute walk from the El. Washer/dryer on premises and plenty of street parking. Stairs up to the front door, and all bedrooms are on the second floor. The building has a lot of its original charm, with a few funky things here and there. The place is full of our stuff, as you can see, but if you have stuff you want to bring with you, we can figure out how to make room for some of it in the common areas. There’s a grill in the back yard and a raised bed, in case you’ve got a bit of the touch for gardening. Our neighbors are great, to the person, and it’s a comfortable place all-in-all.
Okay, enough of that, about us: Nigel is an aging punk social worker who recently learned how to foam milk and is into queer fiction and partying one weekend a month. I’m the one who is going to stay when Laura moves out. Laura is an adjunct with a PhD who wears leopard print to class and is writing a history zine about sports cars and fascism. We’re long-term partners but it’s circumstance that led to us cohabitating the last two or so years, and we’re going back to living separately because it’s what works for us. Addy is our machinery-obsessed child who doesn’t know what girls and boys clothes are and who is currently learning to read and write, despite the anarchic school we send him to, which teaches no such thing. Addy will eventually be going back and forth 50/50 between us.
Ideally you’d be someone who is Left and not liberal, who cannot stand passive or excessively indirect communication, likes music, appreciates what kids have to offer to social life, who is queer or at the least have asked yourself if you are, and who is probably north of the 30 year mark. You’d be looking for a cooperative arrangement - ultimately renting the house together rather than you subleasing from me, if that makes sense. Sharing chores, errands, meals even? All would be amazing, but let's figure it out together. I’d just say if you’re mainly just looking for a cheap room someplace, I get it 10000% but this is not that and let’s keep it moving.
Home is sanctuary! We all need space to unwind and abide within the calm. AND, we throw parties and house shows, lately a couple of times a month (immaculate vibes only, dolls) and would love to keep that up. Hopefully you would be into all that, or at least willing to negotiate. You should be okay with my partner being here with dogs in tow up to half the time. If you've got your special person/ppl, that is obviously great too, as long as we can all be respectful and talk anything over as it comes up.
We’re middle aged adults looking to live communally, so there is no such thing as overcommunicating here. Please ask us any and all questions about any of us, how we keep the place, spend our time, parent our child, what we do in the community, etc. Thanks, can’t wait to meet you!
