Rad family house share
Hey babes. We are currently 2 adults and a freaky lil 6-year-old child with a medium-size sometimes dog, looking to rent a room out+++. We are looking for some radically wonderful individual/s to move in and share our space with us starting next month. $700/mo + utilities for a big lovely room and some storage.
The house - one side of a West Philly twin, with 4 rooms upstairs, enclosed front and back porches, and a partly finished basement, two blocks off the 34 trolley and about a 15 minute walk from the El. Washer/dryer on premises and plenty of street parking. Stairs up to the front door, and all bedrooms are on the second floor. The building has a lot of its original charm, with a few funky issues here and there. The place is full of our stuff, as you can see, but if you have things you want to bring with you, we can make room for it in the common areas. There’s a grill in the back yard and a raised bed, in case you’ve got a bit of the touch for gardening. Our neighbors are great, to the person, and it’s a comfortable place all-in-all. The room is spacious and full of light, about 150 sq ft, with bay windows, hardwood flooring, a built in mantle and mirror, and a squeaky sliding grand doorway. It is fairly plush and we think you'd like it.
Okay, about us: Nigel (he/him) is an aging punk social worker who is into queer fiction and playing drums. Wallace Rose (they/them) is a youth mentor with a freshly minted Medical Assistant certification who is into critical geography, speculative fiction, and Afro-Caribbean music, foods, and vibes. Adrian (he/him) is a science and machinery obsessed child who doesn’t know what girls and boys clothes are, but can explain how the wiring in a house works, and who is currently learning to read and write, despite the anarchic school he attends, which absolutely teaches no such thing. Adrian splits time between here and his mom's house, and his mom is a frequent guest.
Ideally - and this section is important - you are someone who is Left and not liberal, who absolutely cannot stand passive or excessively indirect communication, likes music, appreciates what kids have to offer to social life, who is queer or at the least have asked yourself if you are, and who is probably north of the 30 year mark. You’d be looking for a cooperative arrangement - ultimately renting the house together rather than you subleasing from us, if that makes sense. We split chores and occasionally meals, and are very open to figuring out other ways we can share resources and responsibilities and make a home together. I’d just say if you’re mainly just looking for a cheap room someplace, we get it 10000% but this is not that and let’s keep it moving.
Home is sanctuary! We all need space to unwind and abide within the calm. AND, we throw parties and house shows, at times one or two times a month (immaculate vibes only, dolls) and would love to keep that up. Hopefully you would be into all that, or at least willing to negotiate. You should be okay with partners being over and the normal hubbub of friends. If you've got your special person/ppl, that is obviously great too, as long as we can all be respectful and talk anything over as it comes up.
Please tell us some things about yourself, and what you're looking for in cohabitating. Also do ask us any and all questions about any of us, how we keep the place, spend our time, parent our child, what we do in the community, etc. Thanks, can’t wait to meet you!
