Seeking roommate for lovely elder gentleman

We are looking for a roommate for my 93 year old grandfather. We would prefer someone retired but will consider all ages. Rent is set at a low price in exchange for occasional companionship and cooking meals 2-3 times a week.

Jack is a lively and good-natured 93-year-old Long Islander who has lived in California for the last 50 years. He is accomplished and extremely interesting, he founded the first psychologist’s union in America and was a deputy coroner on Marilyn Monroe’s death. He is full of stories and loves watching movies or eating at Woody’s, his local diner. His wife (my incredible grandmother) of 50 years passed last year and he’s finding it hard to adjust to living on his own. He just wants someone to listen to his stories and to comment on the weather with.

He is completely independent (more with it than me to be honest) so this is not a caretaker situation. We are just looking for someone nice who doesn’t mind watching a few movies and cooking dinner 2-3 times a week. Housekeeping would not be expected and someone would be hired to come in regularly to tidy the space, included in rent.

You would have a private bedroom with large windows, furnished or not depending on your needs. You would also have a private full bathroom with a bathtub and private laundry on site. There is a large porch to watch the sunset from and lots of surrounding palm trees that give it that Southern California feel.

The building is absolutely beautiful (I would seriously consider moving in if I weren’t moving in with my fiancé right now) and features a pool, jacuzzi, multiple fireplaces, a work office in the lobby downstairs with computer access as well as a movie room and very aesthetic decor. It is a 65+ living community though there are some younger people living there as well.

All utilities, including cable, streaming, and wifi, are included in the price. References and a thorough background check will be compulsory.
