More than you wanted to know
Not a perfect “fit” but rather a growth opportunity for a perfect “add” to the lil life I’m livin’ round these parts (PNW).
My retirement plan is my first home purchased back in 2020. At 50 a 30-year mortgage sounded less like a solo adventure and more like like a warp speed time & energy drain that would stress out my remaining years, so I looked for a multi-family unit that could pay for itself.
What I found was tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in a small town on the outskirts of a major metro location, just minutes to a river and the great outdoors. It’s two floors, remodeled into separate units; upstairs is 3 bedroom/2 bath and full kitchen, and downstairs is 4 bedrooms/1 bath, kitchen and laundry.
I’ve been renting out rooms month by month and have roommates who’ve lived here for years now. In July, I’m looking to add one more. The room available is very small but whoever moves in would have first pick of the two larger rooms I expect to open in the future (I have two college age students that will be moving on soon.)
Since 2020, I’ve turned the place into an oasis for both beauty and health. I imagine myself at 80 puttering around the yards nibbling on blueberries for breakfast and smelling the jasmine during lunch.
I added an art studio to make messes, and placed a greenhouse (in the wrong place - but that’s another story) for winter growing. There’s also a fire pit in the backyard for outdoor fall gatherings.
About me: I’m a bit of an odd (pronounced AuDHD) bird. Over-educated and under-appreciated, I’ve lived a very full life in various locations in the US and abroad. I tend to keep to myself and avoid large, loud, socially demanding groups or environments that require several layers of masking, or at least two shots of 151-proof alcohol to enjoy.
I have three children, two grown from birth, and one teen, adopted and currently co-parenting.
I am a gifted educator, thought leader and creative, but lack skills that require math or “slow and steady wins the race” kind of work. I pay others to measure precisely and build things, or beg my daughter to bake bread and sweets.
I make messes but tidy them up eventually, unless it’s in the kitchen or bathroom in which case clean-up is performed within 24 hours.
I love Afrobeats and will listen to a new favorite on repeat until it’s not my favorite anymore, but I do so with headphones or during a car concert to keep others from going mad. Unless they wanna ride with me and then it’s on!
I am a follower of Christ and may sometimes shout out “Hallelujah” for no apparent reason except that my God is good, all the time. There are times when I forget this and will hide in my bedroom for three days eating crackers & cheese with something pickled and too many squares of a dark chocolate bar, although I will eat the latter at any time.
I watch murder mysteries and anime or other fantastical stories. I rewatch NCIS episodes to put me to sleep, and Elementary during the day while working from home.
My mental health routine includes gardening, and being quiet in nature. I recently started going back to the gym which is helping as well, but it’s slow progress due to herniated disc.
I do have a small plot of undeveloped land on the coast that I hope to one day do something with, but my plate is pretty full these days and the most I can do in the immediate future is camp on it to see and hear what the land says I can do as it’s steward in the future.
I have a regurgitory reaction to hippie-ness. I have nothing against hippies, but as a hippie-child, new age sage burning practices while full-grown adults dance naked was a bit traumatizing for me growing up. Crystals are pretty, but give me a regular rock from the river please, and keep your clothes on.
The one practice that continued beyond the hippie era is healthy eating. Grape nuts with sliced over-ripe bananas, honey, and cream is a delightful delicacy. So are the fresh kale or collards picked from the garden. Cooked with plenty of garlic, so if you’re a vampire this may not be the best place for you.
I’m realizing as I write this that it’s very long, so I’ll end with what you probably wanted to know at the beginning of your a female: there are two men staying here at the moment. They are well trained, and remain in their man-caves almost exclusively except to gather food, and leave for work. I trust both with my own child (21-year-old daughter) who lives in the same space.
There is also a shitpoo (mixed shitzu and poodle) named Moose; a blue bird named Mouse who is a bit sad since her yellow friend Monkey died earlier this year; and two beta fish, Eenie and Mo, (we lost Meanie and Miney years ago.) Outdoor animals include two cats, Fatboy and Rain; both venture inside to cuddle or run under foot to remind me of feeding time. I may get hens and a coop soon. This is why I have a no pet policy; we already have plenty.
If you are looking for a place to live small in the short-term with the chance to expand into more room later, I’m hoping to bring someone in within the next month. If you just wanna hang out this summer, I also have a camper named Bü (Black Unicorn - like me!)
Thanks for reading all the way to the end. Lots of words to say I’ve got space to share. And more words if you’re a reader, (obviously I write in my spare time. If you don’t want to rent from me, but you’re curious about faith, sobriety, and what to do with all the poo the fan blew into every nook, crack and cranny the moment you put the mop away, hit me up.
Pics added as evidence this is a real offer, not ai generated. Black bird and orange rock courtesy of the Sandy River down the street. Outdoor space is where much time is spent living. A live view of indoor spaces provided after initial contact and conversation.
