Shared room in cute cape

Come live with us in our beautiful historic home, set up with the latest in tech, a short walk from downtown Hallowell. You’d be sharing with up to four other full-time residents plus owners (present some of the time). We love living with roommates!

__The neighborhood__
The Cute Cape is very close to downtown Hallowell - 5 short blocks walk to Water St shops/restaurants; easy access to highway and Augusta
Hallowell is a center for live music and good food. Within walking distance are places for coffee, fresh juice and smoothies, restaurants, renowned pubs and bars, a bakery, banks, a post office, and live music offerings. Walk by the beautiful Kennebec River, or a few blocks away are the delightful Vaughan Woods. A short drive by car are all the big-box stores, services and government offices available around Augusta.

__The house__

__The bedroom__
Downstairs bedroom - 15’ x 11’ 7”, new ceiling with dimmable LED ceiling lights, two large closets with lights. Narrow plank hardwood floor. 174 sq ft. $770/month

__The furniture__
Bedrooms furnished with period beds and modern mattresses, antique dressers, chair, bedside tables, lamps, bedding, towels. Living room equipped with comfy sofa and armchair, local original and reproduction art, clock.

__Who we are, what we do__
So far the occupants of this Cute Cape are Mark and Grace, who bought it in 2017, Andrew, Nadia and William, Mark and Grace are British. Mark is a classical realist painter/sculptor and he also expresses his artistry through restoring old houses and bringing out their beauty. Grace works in operations management. Mark and Grace spend varying amounts of time in Hallowell and love it when they do. Andrew works in I. T.,Nadia is studying at the University of Maine at Augusta, and William works at a not for profit.

We like to stay reasonably tidy, especially in common areas, but we are not obsessive about it.

__Pets__
We are cat friendly but do not have one at present. We have enjoyed the presence of up to two cats in a house at a time. Please don’t apply if you are deathly allergic or this would make you unhappy. We do not want a dog in the house.

__Costs___
Utilities Included: Electricity, Furnace Oil, Wood for Stove, Internet, Water, Sewer, Regular Garbage
If you want to use your own window air conditioner for your room (not provided), there is a $50 fee for reasonable use for the summer season.
Additional charge: $25 per month per room - fee for basic cleaning of all common areas and bedrooms
Up to one (more) cat OK with additional cat deposit $250, no dogs, ask about other pets

__Lease__
Lease term: 6 months minimum (unless specifically a 3-month summer-only internship), then month-to-month. Note that although we have a valid Innkeeper’s License from the City in order to rent out rooms, we have no intention of taking any short term guests. One roommate per room avoids overload in common areas.
Deposit: $500 plus first and last month’s rent (first month prorated according to date)

__House rules__
No smoking anything, and no drugs on the premises (house and land) please - no exceptions. No subletting. We require every roommate takes out their own renters' insurance. We allow occasional short-term guests only.

__What’s next?__
If you like what you see, write to us by email and tell us a bit about yourself. We will chat a bit and then give you a chance to meet us and our roommates and to see the place (we can do this by video with a live tour and conversation with us all). If we all agree you are a good fit, we'll ask you to submit your details into a system where we'll run a background check (and you'll pay $25 for that). Happy room- and roommate-hunting!
