I’ll soon be heading out on a trip and would love to sublet my room in Manhattan for one to two months.
I’m offering it for $1,000/month in exchange for taking care of my two cats while I’m away. The usual rent for the room is $1,300, so this reflects a $300 monthly discount in appreciation for your help.
I just came across this video I made a couple of years ago and thought I’d include it to give you an idea of the apartment’s atmosphere and feel. The apartment is actually in better condition now, as you can see in the photos.
The room is bright and full of natural light (and plants), and comes furnished with a dresser, nightstand, closet, desk, and office chair, plus a cat who, depending on his mood and your energy, may occasionally double as a pillow.
The apartment is fully furnished and equipped, with two bedrooms. As a bit of a foodie, I’ve stocked the kitchen with just about every spice you could imagine to elevate your cooking. It’s on the first floor in Inwood, uptown Manhattan (the northern tip of the island), just two blocks from the 207th Street stations on the A and 1 subway lines, and about a 25-minute subway ride from Midtown. It’s also a 10-minute walk from The Met Cloisters (arguably the most beautiful museum in the city) and just four minutes from Inwood Hill Park, home to Manhattan’s largest remaining native forest. Step inside and it genuinely feels like you’ve wandered far beyond the city.
This listing is for cat lovers only, as I have two: Bambú (the aforementioned pillow-cat) and Pantera (the philosopher-cat). Bambú, for instance, will expect a daily “toll” of back scratches, especially if you happen to be on your way to the bathroom.
You’ll be sharing the apartment, though not your room, with another roommate who will be staying in the main bedroom. They’ll be paying a bit more and won’t be responsible for the cats.
In your first message, please tell me a little about yourself and your experience with cats. If you’re in New York City or nearby, it would be ideal to arrange a visit soon, as my departure is approaching.
