The apartment is in Harlem just off Broadway on 150 Street. The neighborhood has changed rapidly in the last 5 years due to gentrification. When I moved here, the primary businesses were hairdresser and bodegas. Now restaurants and coffee shops are just a stone throw away. The building has six stories with nine apartments on each floor. There is an elevator, and a laundry room in the basement. (Laundry room gets locked up at 9pm). There also is a superintendent who keeps things clean, but no doorman. The apartment we are talking about is on the 5th floor. It has an eat-in kitchen, with a dining area adjacent, one and one half bathroom and parquet floor throughout. (Except in the kitchen) I did move in together with my daughter in 2006. Now that she is in College and I’m commuting from my house in Massachusetts I do not need that much space and have been renting out rooms primarily to Columbia students. Julius with whom I’m currently sharing the apartment is a graphic designer who works as the manager of a fashion company in SoHo. He hardly ever is home before 8PM or 10PM depending if he goes to the gym after work or not. I’m a faculty at NYU and at RISD in Providence, RI. During a regular semester I stay at the apartment from Tuesday morning to Thursday morning. I do get up around 7:30AM and leave at around 9AM. I teach till 9:30 in the evening so I’m hardly ever home before 10:30 – 11:00PM. The room that is available is located towards the backside of the building but has nice light during the day. It is furnished with a twin-size bed, a large book shelves, a vintage drafting table, a vintage metal shop chair, art deco table light and a built-in closet. It has a comfortable size and measures about 12feet in length and 11 feet in width. There is central heat in the building. The heat is forced air and in all the years, I have never been cold. The neighborhood is safe, and the closest Subway is just five short blocks away. To Columbia’s new campus it is only two stops, to the main campus three stops. There is a sports facility in walking distance where you can go ice-skating, swimming…If you are a jogger, you can start running as soon as you leave the house and jog down Riverside Park. Utilities include heat, gas and WIFI Please let me know if you have any additional questions I can answer. I look forward to talking to you
