Are you looking for a room in a great neighborhood? Check this place out.

Room available immediately for a responsible, mature working person. (A graduate/professional student might be OK, provided his/her finances are rock-solid; no undergrads, please, unless you're way past the customary undergrad living habits.) 1 BR in 2-BR apartment (ca. 600 sq ft total) on a lively historic East Village block to share with journalist/musician (male, workaholic, nocturnal, sane... and seronegative for coronavirus!) for sublet, any length OK but ideally 6 months or more, with option to extend by mutual consent. Close to transit, NYU, Cooper Union, restaurants, nightlife, NYPL branch, conveniences, etc.

Apartment is bright and clean with high ceilings (9 1/2 ft. in most rooms), big windows, furnished kitchen, microwave, dishwasher, broadband, and Roku. The available room has complete privacy, at the opposite end of the hall from mine; the living room, kitchen, and bath are common space, fully furnished. It's a century-old walkup building in good condition; in my 17 years living here we've stayed cockroach-free (rare in old buildings). Utilities (the roommate's share) come to about $60-75/month (Con Ed) plus $35/month for the net (Spectrum/Time Warner); there's no cable TV account, but if you'd want to add one, it'd be an option. Up-front cost to move in is $2600: the first month's rent share plus a month's share as a security deposit.

Although the rooms aren't huge -- it's the classic Manhattan tradeoff, location vs. space -- the height, light, and location make this apartment a cheerful place to live. Smart arty upbeat tolerant left-leaning folks with a good sense of humor and an appreciation of rock and jazz (indie/noncommercial, mainly) will get along well. A well-behaved dog would be welcome. (No cats, though.) I'm musical, but I don't blast the stereo or instruments when anyone's asleep or working.

Mismatches to avoid: please no cigarette smokers, prima donnas, neurotics, philistines, party-hearty 'bro' types, TV junkies, slobs, flakes, Drumpf chumps, cultists of any sort, or people with high-drama personal lives. I'm mostly pretty quiet, working from home around the clock, sometimes out at night; friends come by occasionally, but not constantly. It's an adult apartment, not a party house.

E-mail for exact address, contact info, and visiting arrangements. Please mention a few basic things about yourself in your message. References and proof of employment would be helpful. Also, I don't use Facebook, so please don't bother with Facebook links in messages about the room. Regular e-mail through the Spareroom. com system is ideal.

I'm looking forward to meeting you. Thanks for your interest.
