Chinatown Apt Great Location Low Rent
Apartment is located in Chinatown right next to Columbus Park. Current rent is $3,350 per month ($1,675/person) and landlord has agreed to a $100 total increase in October when new lease year starts ($1,725/person). After factoring in WiFi and gas/electric, I currently pay just under $1,800/month.
Apartment has 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, and bathroom. One bedroom is larger than the other, but only the smaller bedroom has a closet. Current roommate is moving out to live with his girlfriend, and is willing to leave behind a fully furnished bedroom (bed frame, mattress, clothing rack, dresser, and desk). Plenty of cabinet/storage space in kitchen. Living room is basically just a couch, rug, couple chairs, and a TV stand/TV. Bathroom is good quality, enough shelving/storage, and I personally think the shower is very nice. Each bedroom and living room has a radiator/heater, and I have installed a powerful A/C unit in the living room. It is a second floor walk up, and there is a small balcony with enough room for a couple chairs outside the front door (facing into area between nearby building, not facing street).
Overall a nice apartment (especially for the price), but will not claim that it is overly large (definitely comfortable enough for two people though). Have never had any rats/cockroaches/pests of any kind since I moved in October last year. Also, the supers are very responsive, and the two times I’ve had an issue (sink clog and water leaking onto balcony from above) they were able to fix the issue quickly either the same or next day.
The location on Mulberry St south of Canal is slightly away from total hustle and bustle of Canal St, Mott St, and Little Italy, but still a very active and safe place to be. Plenty of great cheap food options, as well as Asian grocery stores (and 15 min walk to a Trader Joe’s/Target). Canal St station (6, N/Q/R/W, J/Z) only a 5 min walk away, about 15 min walk to A/C/E, 1/2/3, and B/D lines.
I would be your only roommate. I currently do not have a job (took most of the year off after moving here from San Francisco), but am currently starting to job hunt again. In my plentiful free time, my hobbies have been biking, running, reading, movies (love AMC A-List), trivia, watching soccer, and hanging out with friends in the evening. Definitely wouldn’t call myself a complete neat freak but very much like to keep the apartment clean. Am a very lowkey roommate to live with, if I believe my past roommates have been honest with me. Hoping to find someone easy to live with, and hopefully we can get along and become friends as well!
