Lovely Bedroom avail Jun 1 in Sunny 2-bedroom
I’m moving out of my beautiful Watertown apartment & helping my awesome roommate find someone to replace me.
The following is a description from my roommate:
My wonderful roommate is moving in with her partner, and I am looking for my next wonderful roommate!
I work several part time jobs and am involved in running a theatre company; my schedule is unpredictable and varies week by week. I do some work from home, but mostly out in various retail and arts settings. I do a lot of cooking, and enjoy housework as an activity but don’t aspire to an aggressively clean house. I’m an omnivore with a tendency toward bulk buying, and would love to find a roommate who will help me eat my summer farmshare. I’m really dedicated to shared meals and shared groceries, and live most happily with a roommate who will sit down to dinner with me on a fairly regular basis (schedule permitting). I host a monthly afternoon tea which is an eclectic, multi-generational gathering of interesting people, tea, and baked goods.
There are two feline housemates in residence, who are my beloved foster-babies. They are devoted snugglers and would like to be in your lap or on your laptop keyboard. One is an irrepressible plant-eater; I have a few houseplants I have managed to keep safe on high shelves, and if you have a few houseplants I’m sure we can find safe places for them, but there is limited capacity for extensive household greenery. We also do not have space for any additional pets.
I don’t own a television and don’t want one taking up residence in my living room. I like having windows open whenever the weather permits it. I’m pretty quiet, I like low-key background music playing, but am sensitive to high-volume media and bright or blinking lights – this is a generally low-tech, sensory-calm household.
The apartment is a 2-bedroom on the second floor, a very classic Watertown style - wood-framed glass doors between the main rooms (which are great for heat management in extremes of both hot and cold), multiple tiny porches, the fridge in its own weird little pantry off the kitchen. I don’t have central air conditioning, and I try to keep my carbon footprint small. I adore my spacious living room, sunroom, and hardwood floors.
The bedroom available is unfurnished. Living room/dining room/kitchen are more or less furnished, and I keep an extremely well-stocked kitchen, but of course space can be made for any furnishings/decor/pots and pans you want to bring. There is also substantial storage space in the basement. I don’t have a car, so the allotted parking space in our driveway is all yours.
Rent is $1200 per person per month, and utilities (heat, electricity, and internet) an additional $150ish per person per month. I’ve lived here four years, the lease is in my name, and I’m hoping to find a roommate who wants to stay at least a year, but there’s some flexibility around that. Based on my current roommate’s moving timeline, the room is available June 1st or a little before – there may be an option to move in the last few days of May.
I’m particular about who I live with and how I live, and I’m really looking for someone I can feel comfortable sharing space with, who can feel comfortable sharing space with me, with a mesh of aesthetics, routines, and priorities. I tend to form strong friendships with my roommates, if the fit is good – at my recent birthday party, I realized almost the entire guest list was people I had lived with, at one point or another.
