Non medical care giving- reduced rent in house
Hello: I am looking for preferably a male housemate / light non-medical caregiver for my dad, Al, in exchange for reduced rent in a 3 bedroom house in Westchester/LAX. It is $500 per month including utilities.
The en suite room- sizeable bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower- is furnished with a decent double bed and dated 1960s furniture. Some or all furniture can be removed. The bedroom is 12.5 feet by 10.2 feet.
There's a shared living room and also a TV room, where my dad spends most of the time. The décor is definitely out of the 1960s and 70s. I am in the process of renovating and updating the décor and doing some decluttering. The third bedroom serves as a guest and utility room, but it could also be used as an office/study space.
There is a backyard. There is a cat. Fine to add another cat if you have one. Kitchen with all amenities, washer and dryer. Parking on street or in the driveway. Smoking outdoors is fine.
My dad is 82 and a cool independent guy who likes to play bridge online, do jigsaw puzzles, go for walks on his own around the neighborhood, watch crime dramas and sports. He loves baseball. And he loves potatoes. He practiced dentistry before he retired.
Looking for preferably a man who would be comfortable with light non-medical care duties:
Taking my dad shopping once or twice a week- he has a car you can use for such errands
Taking him to appointments. There are not many, 2 a month, depending.
Light house work- dishes, sweeping, taking out trash, feeding cat and changing cat litter.
Water the lawns a few times a week, if needed.
My dad generally prepares his own food but a few prepared meals a week would be appreciated.
It would be great to have someone who can be a companion and would watch a bit of TV with him. And sometimes make him a cup of tea in the evening. He's a night owl and not an early bird.
All together it is not more than 10 hours of duties a week.
It is necessary to have a valid driver's license and be CPR/first aid certified.
No bathing, toileting, medication management, or medical care is expected. If my dad's needs increase, we can reassess the situation and use professional care if needed.
Since my dad is on the older side, ideally the housemate wouldn't be having many parties and playing loud music. But that doesn't mean guests are not allowed. I want this house to feel like home to you too. Just putting out the vibe. This is also why I am requesting preferably a male housemate due to shared living space and care-giving comfort.
If this sounds like this would suit you, please contact me, Nicole. Since it is involves being around my elder father, a background check (criminal, driving, previous evictions) and references are needed. In addition, CPR certified / first aid certified and current driver's license are necessary. We would also like to do a virtual interview before any home visit takes place.
