We're looking for a roommate at our awesome Grand St apartment (the best NY/BK flat I have ever inhabited...seen?!) There is a room open for January 1. This apartment has been home to artists and designers over the last years and also sprinkled in were folks in law, technology, film, medicine, etc. We welcome people of all genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds who will add to the richness of our communal space.

The space is unlike any you have seen...it is a ground floor apartment that used to be a storefront and was completely renovated 7 years ago but retained an almost entirely glass street facing wall. If you have walked past it on the little fork of Grand street just where it meets Borinquin (which continues, with the bicycle lane toward the Williamsburg bridge) you will have noticed our house! At first it felt like a social experiment with the front glass wall and countless passers-by stopping to say "wow, is this a new shop/restaurant?...wait, do you live here?!?!" Yes, we live here, it is our home. We have custom panels to cover the windows for those times when endless sunlight isn't wanted in the space (or when more privacy is desired of course).

The "house" includes a main floor with 10+ foot ceilings, a glass front wall and an exposed brick wall on one side. There are 4 bedrooms total, 2 facing the HUGE backyard and garden area, 1 in the center of the space, and 1 in the also huge basement that additionally includes tons of storage or work space to be used by all roommates. The kitchen and living room area take full advantage of all of the light from the front windows. The backyard is open and shaded for our hot summer (and is also a great place to hang with friends from a distance, grill out, or project a film on the giant wall painted white for that purpose!) There are two bathrooms, one full size and one small, with toilet and sink. We have central A/C and heat.

The available main floor rear bedroom (away from the street) has a huge window for awesome light. Its door to the backyard brings a great breeze in the warmer months and is perfect for stepping out into our private outside space. Furnishing is flexible with the several pieces currently in the room including bed frame and mattress and some shelving though things can change or be removed as you prefer.

About Us:
I'm 32, a queer, poly leftist who works in software (from home these days), active in LGBTQ and socialist groups, and aspire to do more cooking and crafts.
One roommate is 27 and works in genomics research. She likes to garden, particularly in our private backyard. She is also into books, music (mostly post-emo and indie), hiking, roller skating, snowboarding, baking, eating, sleeping and a bunch of other stuff.
The other roommate (who we all sublet from) is a 36 year old male designer and educator working at a university and as a maker in various capacities. He's also very into movement and wellness practice, bicycle culture and advocacy and have an educational non-profit. He mostly lives with his girlfriend bc COVID and comes by throughout the week, but effectively you'd only be sharing common spaces (kitchen, shower, etc.) with 2 other people.

We have a small dog (20 lb terrier mix) and a cat who enjoy all the attention you are willing to give. Unfortunately, this also means we can’t accept any more pets at this time.

We take COVID very seriously and expect that you do too. We have limited our bubbles, each of us has 1-2 people we’ve all agreed can visit, and all guests wear a mask in the common areas.

We are a house of creative and thoughtful humans maintaining a space for people of all identities and backgrounds. If this sounds like you, definitely message me about coming to check the place out! We are Lgbtqia and supportive of expansive lifestyles and identities. Please confirm you are on board with this in your reply, and don't bother responding if you're not genuinely on board.

Utilities are about $100 per month per person and cover gas, electric, and internet. The security deposit ($1400) will be required to take the room off the market but you won't need to sign a lease, just a sublet agreement that would allow you to move out with 1 month notice when/if that is necessary. The NYC typical first month and last month rent ($1400 each) will be due by move in. Again, short or longer term rental inquiries are welcome.

Get back to me with your interest and some information about yourself (this part is very important and your inquiry likely won't go far without it among the many we always get when offering a room) and how you'd use and fit in this space? Also include your number or video chat info and we can connect soon. Open rooms here have always gone fast so get in touch quickly if you think this is a good match!
