LOOKING FOR 2 ROOMMATES / BUSHWICK / NOV. 1 LEASE

I just learned that I may have an opportunity to stay in my current apartment/building with two new roommates. I’m still figuring out the details with management, including the rent and exact terms, but I have about a week to figure out if there’s enough interest before I have to give up the place. So I’m putting feelers out now!

RENT:
The current rent for the 3-bedroom apartment is $3,155, which would be about $1,052 per person split three ways. I haven’t received the new lease yet, so I don’t have the final rent amount and can’t give a firm number at this point, but the previous increase was reasonable.

LOCATION:
Bushwick/East NY, 2 blocks from the L at Bushwick Aberdeen. The A, C, and J are also nearby.

THE APARTMENT:
Three-floor walk-up on the top floor, with a deck area and laundry on site.

WHO I’M LOOKING FOR:
I’m looking for thoughtful roommates, I highly prefer but not require 35+ y/o, who are working and interested in staying longer term, potentially beyond one year.

- Compatibility is important to me. I want to be thoughtful about who I live with and how we might fit together as roommates. I’m looking for people whose communication styles, habits, expectations, and approach to sharing a home feel compatible with mine.

- I’m looking for a peaceful, comfortable, respectful shared home where people communicate regularly and thoughtfully about things that affect each other and can talk through household issues directly and respectfully.

- Consideration around noise, guests, shared spaces, and each other’s schedules is important. Gatherings are fine within reason, with good communication and flexibility around each other. Overnight guests are okay too, with reasonable limitations and communication.

- Minimal drinking, not looking for a party-house situation.

- No smoking indoors. No couples. No pets.

- Good hygiene and health practices are important to me. This means cleaning up after yourself, understanding how your hygiene affects the household, and participating in shared cleaning/chores on a rotating basis. I also ask that people mask in common areas when sick and be generally health conscious, like covering your mouth when coughing. I will do the same.

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The landlord requires applicants to have decent credit and demonstrate income of at least 30x the rent. This is also important to me because I’m not in a position to carry someone else’s share of the rent.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
I’ve lived here for 2 years but worked in the neighborhood for over 13 years. I love going to a lot of queer places around here: the Boyfriend Coop is one of my faves. There’s just so much around for drinkers, and nondrinkers alike, bookworms, artists, musicians and philosophers as well as for community organizers who are amazing.
