Room in Queer, Peaceful Bushwick Home

We're offering: A room for 1 (one) roommate until October next year. However, the room could also be available on a short-term basis (about 2 to 3 months) and would be a good fit for someone with clear temporary plans, such as a work project, internship, housing transition, or simply needing a stable place to land for a bit.

$1052/month (first month and security deposit to move in) + utilities and Wi-Fi. We also split the cost of shared household items like paper towels and toilet paper, etc.

Located in Bushwick between L (Bushwick/Aberdeen) and J (Chauncey) trains (A & C also nearby), 3rd fl. Walk-up. Laundry in the building. Roof Deck. No pets, no couples.

What we're looking for: We seek a new housemate with experience living in community: effective day to day communication skills, cultural humility, self-awareness, respect for individuality and personal space, and deep care and respect for common spaces (someone who appreciates hygiene). Non-smokers please. No heavy drinkers please. Mask when sick.

Requirements: Meet income, credit score requirements, references and proven record and ability of paying on time.

1) Living style: Please share your cleaning habits - both ongoing and more targeted or deep-cleaning routines (so we can get a sense of what's important to you). Also, your approach to noise, smoking, pets, drinking, and anything else that helps us imagine having you as a housemate.

2) Community & culture: Our household is queer-led, gender-affirming, and values inclusivity. Both current housemates come from different cultural backgrounds. Please share any experience living in diverse households or with people whose perspectives or backgrounds differ from your own, and how you approach differences, shared responsibilities, and any conflicts that arise.

About the household now:
One non-binary/ fluid AFAB person and one white transfem non-binary person (both in their 40s) living in the space now. We appreciate a generally peaceful environment but do have occasional gatherings.

More about me (They/Them): I'm a non-binary/fluid AFAB person. I’m friendly but also really value my personal space. Ideally I would love to live with someone I can vibe with but what I’m really looking for is a peaceful cohabitating situation and a roommate who’s kind, respectful, and shares the responsibility of keeping our common spaces clean and comfortable. I believe in rotating deeper cleaning tasks weekly - especially the trickier spots like the toilet bowl - so the space stays comfortable for everyone.

More about J (they/them). "I'm a white non-binary transfem academic into cooking, language, organizing, bleak histories. Elder millennial (derogatory). Self-knowledge and flexibility are very important to me. I'm excited about roommates who would be willing to contribute to regular cooking rotation. Would love to do shared dinners when our schedules align, but mostly just want to split the costs and labor of meal prep. Very flexible on dietary restrictions and preferences."

I’ve lived here for over a year but have worked in the neighborhood for over 13 years now. I love going to a lot of queer places around here: the Boyfriend Coop is one of my faves. There’s just so much around for drinkers, and nondrinkers alike, bookworms, artists, musicians and philosophers as well as for community organizers who are amazing.
