Looking near ASU in 2027 (not confirmed yet)
Hello. I am not moving yet, just getting prepared.
I may want to move to a temporary place first, and then find something more long-term.
Ideal location would be between ASU and the Museum of Human Origins.
I get around by bicycle and bussing, and would like to get within 20 to 30 minutes of these locations.
An artist or homestead community would be appealing. As long as I have my own living quarters.
I would prefer a neighborhood where chickens are allowed. I have a 10’x21’ coop with hutch.
I am a gardener. I grow my groceries. I will need a suitable location for my small 5’x9’ indoor/outdoor greenhouse.
I have a fixed income. I budget ahead to pay predicted bills on-time / early. And I would prefer utilities included, to have a more-consistent billing cycle without surprises.
I need to keep home expenses as low as possible, so I can afford college, which is of greater priority to me than an expensive luxury living space.
I’ll need a place with minimal stairs, as I walk with a cane (a half flight is fine). I’d prefer a private bathroom for my shower chair (because it can get in the way in a shared bathroom). And I will need in-house laundry facilities.
I spend most of my free time doing research at my computer, in the yard, or at a museum. I generally live in my room, like a tiny-home apartment, so I’d prefer a larger room with an adjacent bathroom.
I wouldn’t mind having my own mini fridge/freezer (I am primarily pescatarian (fish and produce), and veggies take up a lot of space). I also don’t like to be around a greasy kitchen, so I tend to avoid sharing stuff, and use my own furniture to store my stuff.
What type of roommate am I?
Depends on what type of roommate you are.
I am only interested in a responsible, self-reliant household.
If I feel bullied into tolerating a bad situation, or if I feel taken advantage of to pick up slack, I won’t be staying. I’ve had too many rotten roommate situations to tolerate another one.
- Around non-narcissists, I am easy-going, up-beat, and generally helpful and collaborative.
- I prefer the cleanliness lifestyle of not leaving behind much of a trace that I was in the room. And I would prefer similar cleanliness of roommates. I actually qualify for housekeeper services, but there isn’t enough for them to do, if that gives you an idea.
- I am not a care-taker type, it actually pisses me off. I will clean up after myself, but I will not be used to pick up slack of a lazy careless roommate. I am not responsible for your choices. And if it interferes with my quality of life, I’d sooner move out.
- I have no issue with collaborating to maintain community spaces and yard work, as long as it is an actual collaboration, and not dumped on me. I am disabled, I am not going to waste my strength on lazy people.
- I completely understand that my chickens/bees/gardens are my responsibility to maintain, and I do not burden myself with more than I can manage alone. If you want to collaborate on homesteading, I expect the same level of responsibility from you. Teamwork makes things easier, but I don’t want the consequence of a temporary impulsive interest dumped on my shoulders to resolve. Your choices are not mine.
