Moving to New York!

Hey everyone! My names Nathan.

I’m a recent grad from University of California Irvine, moving to New York in late October, preferably looking for an apartment around late November to early December but with some flexibility to sign earlier.

I have family upstate and have visited the city a few times but i’m admittedly quite new to the area.

I’m currently pursuing a career in teaching and before my move was a substitute in Irvine. Next fall I plan to go to grad school somewhere in the city to get my teaching credential and possibly my masters.

In terms of Must Haves and Dealbreakers:

I want my privacy and space respected. Likewise I will respect your space and privacy.

I’m not a neat freak or germaphobe but I want to come home to a clean apartment.

Quiet hours most nights by midnight. Weekends/special occasions I don’t mind and if you’re a night owl fine by me I just ask that the volume is kept at a minimum most nights.

I’m friendly but I would never smoke in the house and I don’t want the smell of weed or smoke throughout the house.

No homophobia, racism, sexism.

In terms of hobbies/ interests:

I’d label myself as a very active person. I’m usually working out, hiking, running, or playing some kind of sport at least five days a week. I’ve played soccer since I was little and picked up Ultimate Frisbee in college, but I’m always down to try new sports or activities. I enjoy watching most sports as well, but especially try and catch every Liverpool match I can.

When I’m not out doing something active, I love to:

Read - just finished a book in the fantasy series Discworld and recently started reading The Will of the Many and listening to The Count of Monte Cristo.

Write - something i’ve picked back up recently. I’d love to publish a book one day.

Play board games - Love strategy and social deduction games. Ticket to ride, Dixit, and Codenames are some of my favorite and I’m always down to learn a new game.

Play video games - Currently making my way through the game Silksong.

Watch movies and shows - My favorite movie this year has been One Battle After Another, and I’m currently finishing Black Rabbit.

I like to travel and see new places. I did a big Europe grad trip and a cross-country road trip this past summer. I’m also planning a trip to China in about a year.

Music is a big part of my day-to-day too — I can’t play an instrument, but I listen to all kinds of stuff, so there’s bound to be some overlap.

I’m 420-friendly and occasionally drink socially. I’ll go out but I prefer the more casual house party.

I also love learning new things, no matter the topic.

Being new to the city and still getting to know people, it’d be great to have roommates who are open to hanging out. That said, I totally get wanting your own space, and I’m just as comfortable doing my own thing too.
