Looking for room in northwest Queens or Brooklyn

I'm a CUNY graduate working full-time and looking for a room for the long-term, ideally $1.2 k or under.

I'm currently living and volunteering in northwest Queens (near Sunnyside, Woodside, Elmhurst and Astoria) and would like to stay in the area. But I'm open to other places as long as the commute into Manhattan isn't more than an hour.

I'm fairly quiet (enjoy reading, writing, watching films with my earbuds in and putting up art), prefer to go out instead of having guests over, am good with other people's pets and have had an easy time sharing space and upkeep responsibilities with previous roommates (can provide a reference).
