The Current Situation: For the past 5 years, I’ve been living in Playas de Tijuana (Laderas del Mar, actually), after being priced out of San Diego in 2018. I’ve enjoyed this little 2 bedroom/1 bath apartment up on the hill with my view of the Pacific and the Islas Los Coronados, along with my balcony plants and hummingbirds. I had intended to stay for another 3 years, when I will be eligible for an early Social Security check and reduced “senior” rent in the U. S. However, my landlord has given me notice that he now wishes to use this apartment “for a family member” AND that I will need to vacate by the end of May. He has stated he will provide an excellent reference.

So instead of searching for a less desirable apartment, I’ve decided to go ahead and return to the U. S., whether SoCal or Arizona, where I was a homeowner previously. I DO have my own furniture, so I am seeking an UNFURNISHED place.

Since my office closed in San Diego, I have chosen to spend my time in study and research in preparation to start my own business rather than seek other employment and make the time-consuming commute across the border as I was doing previously. I have just purchased all my equipment and was about to kick it off this month. Rent during this period has been paid using my existing assets, which may be a sticking point with some landlords, although I could pay some months in advance, if desired.

In the event that my new business does not result in clients as quickly as expected, I am still far from destitute and extremely employable whether onsite or remotely, having worked in a number of different industries including insurance, medical, government, retail and hospitality. In all cases (including plentiful remote work), I would be better situated in the U. S. I do need a good internet connection.

As far as the amount of rent, I currently pay only $550, though this apartment should probably be about $650 and I’d have given $750 if asked for it. At the very least, I’m looking for rent in the amount of 3 figures, not four.

I could also exchange some labor such as yardwork/gardening or pet care/dog walking for reduced rent. If you happen to have an ADU on a ranch, I’d be happy to muck stalls. I had horses as a kid, & actually miss the smell of horse poop. 😊

I am not seeking a caretaking role with regard to another person, however. If not in an urban/suburban setting, I’d like to find a place that’s not TOO rural -- within an hour of a good-sized (10,000+) town and accessible without a 4WD vehicle.

The Pet: I am also the longtime custodian of an apparently immortal feline, current age 19 (human years = 92). Despite the vet’s assertion in 2017 that she would expire “within a year,” she continues to disagree. She is also the world’s most expensive shelter cat, requiring a plethora of pricey ingredients slavishly blended into the porridge that sustains her. I am far too skilled at keeping this animal alive, but am also disinclined to shove her over the rainbow bridge until she begins to wander that direction of her own accord. I’m not holding my breath.

She is not in any way destructive. That would require effort, and would disturb her napping. Her name is Olivia. (^..^)~ We prefer not to live in a household with big scary indoor dogs.

No indoor smoking of cigarettes or weed, please. No other drugs. Alcohol is fine; alcoholics are not. No drama or inappropriate behavior.
