Hi, I?m Martin. After kicking cancer's butt and dealing with chemo's side effects, I'm headed to NYC to start a technology/design-related master's program at NYU. Right now, I?ve got my plane ticket for August 25th, but that can be adjusted to be a bit earlier if necessary.

I?ve lived around a lot, here and abroad; I?ve had mostly really positive experiences with roommate situations and I generally get along well with most people. As a roommate (and introvert), I'm tidy, fairly quiet, and often to keep to myself. I tend to give others the benefit of the doubt in most situations and find a sense of humor about life doesn?t hurt.

While I'm friendly and polite, I'd rather have a compatible roommate than a best friend in a flatmate. That said, I don't want to end up living with a complete stranger. (Btw, fairly liberal-minded gay guy here, so please be ok with that? just putting that out there in the name of everyone feeling comfortable at home.)

I?m not a smoker or much of a drinker. I'm not particularly interested in living with someone who smokes (cigarettes) at home. It?s cool if you have a pet, as long as it?s not yappy or will claw, chew, or pee on my things. The cuddlier the better, I say! Also, while I?d ideally have a private bathroom, I?m not holding my breath for that; however, I?m not really up for sharing a bathroom with more than one person.

No particular part of the city in mind, but I?d be cool with a longer commute to school (Jay Street-MetroTech) if it meant a closer walk to a line going to my stop.

I grew up in Texas and have spent the past nine years in DFW around my family as I dealt with health issues. I went to college in Ann Arbor (Go Blue!) and lived in San Diego before moving back to Texas. I love hiking and the outdoors. I?m really looking forward to living in a place with a great public transit system.

***FYI, I?ll be back in Brooklyn from Sun, 25th looking for a place for the school year.*** I'm looking forward to meeting my new roommate(s)!
