About the Neighborhood:
Biased as we may be, this neighborhood rocks. Full of energy at all hours, you'll find people of all ages out on the street at all hours. Old guys sell fresh fruit and vegetables on the street while sitting in lawn chairs. You'll find young people walking home from baseball practice or kids wheeling out a basketball hoop to shoot hoops with their friends on the street, while their moms sit in a circle with the radio and/or gossip amongst each other.
There are tons of awesome food options in the immediate area. Check out "Cachapas y Mas", the "Chimi truck", and "G's Coffee Shop" for small hole in the wall places. There's a juice bar right around the corner that sells a quart of fresh pressed fruit and veggie juice for like 6 bucks. There are also a bunch of trendy, new bars and restaurants popping up every day in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. Take a look at Mamajuana, Tryon Public House, Il Sole, Beets and Vines, New Leaf and La Marina.
The great outdoors! One of the most overlooked aspects of the neighborhood is the access to great public parks. The belle of this ball is Ft. Tryon Park. A surprisingly large maze of winding paths leading to The Cloisters, sitting atop a bluff overlooking the Hudson River. Simply and splendidly beautiful.
Subway access. First things first, if you're a downtowner as we are - moving up here is NOT social or commuting suicide. Our building is directly across the street from the Dyckman St. stop on the 1 train. It is 25 minutes to Times Square and the train runs frequently. You can also walk a couple blocks to the A train, which runs express after 125th all the way to Times Square.
About the Building:
It is a safe and secure pre-war elevator building with brand new laundry facilities. There seems to be a nice mix of young professionals and families - creating a nice, pleasant, and neighborly environment. Our apartment is on the second floor.
About the roommates:
Roommate #1: is a 30 year old female public relations professional! I have been living in the apartment for nearly 6 years, and have loved every minute of it. Originally from Dallas, Texas I moved uptown for the space and the vast greenery! My mornings usually start between 5-6am and if I don't have work commitments or social activities with friends, I get home around 9pm and hang out in our awesome living room with work, a movie, or a book. The weekends, especially during the summer, are when I am home the least! I am pretty easy going and think the standards I have set for the apartment are pretty fair(cleaning up after yourselves, consideration for the other roommates, etc.)
Roommate #2: is a 26 year old marketing professional! She has been living in the space for almost a year!
