about your 2 potential roommates: both female identifying; LGBTQ-friendly (and wish that could go without saying); late 20s/early 30s; a social worker and a human rights advocate/organizer; both lived in intentional communities as part of long-term volunteer programs (Mercy Volunteer Corps, Loretto Volunteer Program, Lutheran Volunteer Corps); cook for each other/eat dinner together weekly; work fairly traditional hours (M-F, 8am-to-7pm range); considerate about keeping all common spaces fairly clean and tidy (bedrooms are another story!); environmentally conscious plant-lovers and public radio enthusiasts who (in non-pandemic times) enjoy having friends over for dinner or small parties in celebration of occasions ranging from the World Cup to Galentine's Day

If that piques your interest, here is a more detailed word picture, lovingly painted by our departing roommate...

After living in this apartment for 4 years, it is time for me to leave New York City and, regrettably, my 2 amazing roommates (both female identifying and in their late 20s/early 30s) and the amazing apartment that has become my home. I wish I could take credit for finding this perfect apartment, but I had nothing to do with it. (I was in Italy at the time...) We are located at the intersection of Woodside, Jackson Heights, and Elmhurst, three incredibly diverse neighborhoods with some of the best restaurants in Queens! (I will miss Thai food from Ayada SOOOOOO much. More than my roommates :D haha just kidding! One of them has been my best friend since we were 4 years old. But more about them later.) Our train station is 74th Street/Broadway and Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Avenue stop, which is serviced by the E, F, M, R, and 7 trains. This combo is incredibly convenient! When the express trains are running, you can be in Manhattan in like 15 minutes from our station. Also, having such a variety of lines is awesome. We are also ONE STOP from La Guardia airport via the bus and the E train gets us to the AirTrain to JFK. For people who like to travel (like me and my two roommates), you couldn't ask for a better location. (Honestly, it's not even that hard to get to Newark, which I did fairly often to visit my boyfriend.)The available bedroom has two west-facing windows that look out to our private back balcony (access through the bedroom next door) and TREES! The room's dimensions are 17 feet x10 feet which, if you know anything about NYC bedrooms, is HUGE. I fit a desk, two bedside lamp tower things, a queen-sized bed, a dresser, laundry hamper, and two bookshelves. Again, I mean it when I say it is really big. In fact, in addition to all that furniture, I currently have a massive number of moving boxes on my floor and still have enough space to do yoga. There is also a good-sized closet. Since it's the master bedroom, it also has a full bathroom en suite. We have the second-floor unit of a three-story building (full disclosure: no elevator, so this may be challenging for people who have difficulty with stairs), which is the best unit in my opinion because we are off the ground floor and are the only unit with both front AND back balconies. Our kitchen is pretty awesome I think (and I LOVE to cook). It has lots of counter space and plenty of room for multiple people to operate in at the same time (a New York rarity). Our living area/dining area are combined and wrap around the kitchen with a half wall between the kitchen and dining areas that allows for socializing from the kitchen to living room and makes the whole common space feel open. One of my roommates, as I said, has pretty much been one of my best friends since we were four years old. I should have a better understanding of her job (lol...), but basically she does human rights and environmental advocacy work for civil society at the United Nations. She is awesome! My other roommate was a friend of my best friend which is how she came to live with us. They knew each other through a volunteer program. She is also an amazing person! She is a social worker in Manhattan. We have become best friends as well over the course of our three years together. We traveled to Cuba together last year which was a wonderful experience! The three of us are all pretty similar, which is probably how we have lived so well together for the past three years. We all try to be conscious and mindful of our environmental impact. We all enjoy traveling and experiencing new things. We all love trying new foods and appreciate diverse cuisines. One roommate is more of an extrovert and the other is more introverted, so, with me as a self-described "slightly extroverted introvert," we had perfect balance. In the before-times, we enjoyed having friends over for dinner or other parties to celebrate occasions ranging from the classic (read: Thanksgiving, New Year's Eve) to the athletically inspired (read: World Cup and Olympics) to the whimsical (Galentine's Day and "Halloweelection" Day). We drink occasionally and don't smoke (anything). We all have other networks of friends and enjoy going out to eat, trivia, exploring, going to museums and checking out pop ups and art things. We have traveled together, gone on hikes, and gone camping. We have pretty regular work schedules (M-to-F, 8am-to-7pm range) and keep things quiet in the apartment from around 10pm onward. The move-in date would be August 1st. If you are interested in a virtual tour of the apartment or a virtual interview with us, please contact us ASAP. Looking forward to hearing from you!
