Roommate for Elderly Father

My dad was living alone with his pet cat until he had a stroke a few months ago, and while he’s made incredible progress in his recovery, he can’t live alone anymore. Although he is very independent, we are hiring caregivers to keep an eye on him during the day and looking for a dependable roommate who can be there in the evenings and nighttime in case he needed very little assistance with something, like getting him a glass of water, zipping up his vest, and making sure he's safe. But if that person would be willing to cook for him and provide general supervision, we'd be willing to compensate you to a degree. Ideally, we’d have a 24/7 caregiver but that’s not viable for many reasons. So it popped up in my mind to look for a roommate for him instead, but we are open to negotiating a live-in work exchange too.

He keeps mostly to himself but is cheerful, kind, and enjoys a lively conversation every now and again. He is a retired architect who loves music, watching sports, and streaming shows. His cat can be slow to warm to others but very loving once she gets to know you. You would have your own private room with a closet and shelving, and we could supply a twin bed and dresser need be. The rest of the house is furnished and includes a dishwasher, clothing washer, and dryer. We are also having the heating system completely overhauled so that it will also have AC in the hotter months. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and our family as well as several neighbors have lived there for many years. It's a 5-10 minutes drive to Del Norte BART and the AC Transit #7 bus runs its route close by.

We’re flexible in if you have to go somewhere and won’t be home in the evenings/overnight we could find coverage for you with enough notice. Message me if you are interested and we can talk about rent, our expectations, and just get to know one another.
