The area is very safe, and very convenient. The immediate couple blocks are warehouses and services and studios mixed with townhouses and apartment buildings. Gowanus is a classic protected New York MIXED-USE residential+industrial neighborhood, only a few blocks in width, that runs down the center of two large affluent neighborhoods: Park Slope and Carroll Gardens. The house is in prime walking distance from top-rated restaurants & bars, as well as farmers-markets, boutiques, and Prospect Park. 6 minute walk to WholeFoods supermarket. Getting around:
When you need advice and directions, I'll send you map links anytime with specific instructions. I know my way around this city, and also the strange quirks of the MTA. It takes 4 minutes to walk to the Metro station at 4av-9st, serviced by the FGNR trains, which will take you anywhere in the city for $2.75. The F-train takes 10 minutes to get to the first stop in Manhattan in the East Village.
