I have one room for rent in a two-bedroom brownstone apartment in Bed-Stuy available January 10 on a month-to-month basis. (A slightly earlier move-in date is negotiable.) The room is UNFURNISHED. The building is a WALK-UP, and the apartment is on the THIRD FLOOR.
About the room:
? Room is UNFURNISHED.
? 15 x 7 and will fit a full-size bed plus shelving, a desk and chair, dresser, etc. (It will fit a queen-size bed horizontally without a frame and vertically with a narrow frame if you don? t have a lot of stuff. It is a tight fit, though.)
? Has a decent-sized closet with additional storage space above the closet.
? Has a window air conditioner already installed.
? North-facing with plenty of sunlight and a nice view of the backyard (and hours of amusement from the neighbors? cats and random birds!)
About the apartment:
? Top floor of a third-floor walk-up. Gorgeous exposed brick in the hallway.
? Living room has southern exposure (great if you have plants!), common closet with additional storage space above, and cut-out wall into kitchen.
? Hardwood floors and high ceilings.
? Bathroom has combined shower/tub and full-size medicine cabinet.
? The living room and kitchen are fully furnished. Ideal for someone who doesn? t have a lot of shared space stuff.
About the Neighborhood:
? Laundromat at end of block, wine shop two blocks away, near several restaurants/cafes, bars (Many of which are open for outdoor service!), and shops/boutiques (many of them open for limited service).
? Grocery store near the train station (They also deliver!). All the major grocery delivery outlets (Peapod, Fresh Direct, FoodKick, Instacart) deliver here if you are avoiding in-person shopping or aren? t up for schlepping groceries home from the store. The Target at City Point also delivers here via Shipt.
? Near A and C trains. The C is closer, but the A is also a doable walk. The G is also somewhat nearby if needed. (Personally, I really only use it when I go to Queens.) Short bus ride to the J/M/Z and 2/3/4/5 trains.
? Easy access to Atlantic Terminal, Barclays Center, BAM, Fulton Mall, City Point, LIRR (Nostrand Avenue station is closest and walkable, but Atlantic Terminal is a short train/bus ride away), and Fort Greene Park.
? Easy access to Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Crown Heights, and Downtown Brooklyn.
? Somewhat easy access to Pratt Institute, BoCoCa, Park Slope, Gowanus, Williamsburg, and Bushwick.
? One-train trip to Lower Manhattan, West Village, and the west side of Manhattan.
About Me:
I am a 30-something queer woman who works full-time for an arts organization during ?regular? Monday through Friday daytime hours. I go into the office five days a week because the core functions of my job do need to be done in-office. I like baking, photography, going to museums/cultural institutions (in normal times), spending time with my friends and supporting their creative endeavors (via Zoom/Skype these days) , and exploring different areas of the city (again, in normal times). I am introverted but not anti-social and fall somewhere in the middle of the neat-freak/slob spectrum. I? m not a Danny Tanner or a Marie Kondo, but I do keep the apartment reasonably clean.
What I am Looking For in a Roommate:
? Between mid-20s and early 40s.
? MUST be LGBT friendly. If you are uncomfortable with LGBTQ+ people, please do not respond.
? Must be respectful of vegetarians. I don? t care if you eat or prepare meat in the apartment (to each their own), but I do ask that we respect each other? s dietary preferences, regardless of what those are.
? Not be either extreme of the neat-freak/slob spectrum.
? We don? t have to be friends, but we do need to get along and be respectful of each other.
? Financially responsible. If you can? t pay the rent and utilities on time, your tenancy will not last long.
Money and Other Things:
? $825 per month, plus between $80 and $100 per month for utilities (Internet, gas, electricity). Higher in the summer due to AC use.
? $825 deposit: $1650 total to move in.
? Room is rented on a month-to-month basis.
? No credit check required, but I do require proof of income/ability to pay rent on time.
? NO PETS. (Sorry, landlord? s rule.) If you have a pet, please do not respond because I cannot let you move in if you have one.
? No cigarette smoking in the apartment.
? NO GUESTS. This rule will be in place for as long as the pandemic is ongoing. I? m not having guests over at all during this, and I expect the same from you.
Pandemic-Specific Information:
? I am someone who takes social distancing and other pandemic rules seriously, and I expect the same from you. I only travel places when I have to, and I have not traveled outside the Tri-State area since before March, nor have I attended any parties/large gatherings since February.
? I don? t expect you to stay in the apartment 24/7, but I do expect you to be respectful of social distancing guidelines and not attend large parties/gatherings or travel outside the Tri-State area unless absolutely necessary.
? I also expect you to thoroughly wash your hands upon entering the apartment and disinfect any surfaces you touched prior to washing your hands.
? As stated above, NO GUESTS are allowed as long as the pandemic is ongoing.
? Apartment viewings will be virtual only unless you are a finalist candidate for the room.
In your response, please share the following:
? What you do for your job/schooling and whether you work/attend school from home or outside the home
? What your schedule is like
? Your living habits and how neat or messy you are/how often you clean
? Hobbies and other things you like to do in your spare time
? Anything else you find relevant
