Single Room in 2 bed apartment in Oakland

Hello! We are a couple in our early/mid 30s looking to fill a room in our 2 bed/2 bath apartment, available October 1. We would prefer to share the apartment with a couple, but we’re open to a single roommate as well.

About the place:
It is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on the top floor of a 4-story building on the border of the Lower Dimond district. Easy access to the 580 freeway and many bus lines, 7min bike or 25min walk to Fruitvale Bart. Walking distance to Farmer Joe’s, Safeway, Dimond Park, and restaurants/bars/shops on Fruitvale and MacArthur Blvd. The building has an elevator and a laundry room with app-operated machines (no coins!). There is ample parking on the street, with street sweeping only one day per month. We have two parking spaces in the garage that you can use for additional monthly rent.

The room for rent is large (14’ x 13’) with a large closet. It has a private detached full bathroom with a tub. The common area includes a very spacious living room with a fireplace and balcony access, and a sunroom that is good for zoom meetings, working from home, or exercising. The kitchen has an electric stove, dishwasher, and dining nook. Lots of storage. Laminate wood floors throughout. This is a penthouse unit, meaning we are the only apartment on the 4th floor, which gives us exclusive access to the roof where we have set up a table and chairs and have views of the Bay on a clear day. We also have AC and central heat!

We love animals! We foster for Cat Town, so we will likely have a cat around most of the time. We’re okay with you having one friendly cat in addition.

Rent is $1300 single/1400 couple monthly. Building is rent-controlled. Utilities and internet split equally (avg. 40-60/month). Deposit is $1000. 6 month lease, then option for month-to-month.

About us:
L (31, he/him) - I am a public sculptor, activist, and student teacher. I work 4 days a week at skyline high. For fun I also like to do rock climbing and play board games.

V (36, she/her) - I’m a mental health counselor currently working from home with a regular office schedule. I’m an activist as well. I love music and singing, although the pandemic has made playing with other musicians hard.

Covid:
We are both full vaccinated and practice common sense with masking and social behaviors. We have been getting back to normal activities, but make adjustments based on current science and data. L works at a public high school. Everyone in our social circle is fully vaccinated as well.
