Quiet Furnished Studio. Low EMFs. Util's Included.

Ad ref# 102091754

Welcome to your furnished studio apartment. You can stay for as little as 3 calendar months or as long as you want. It is 240 square feet, and it's inside the top floor flat of my sunny, remodeled 2-story triplex in North Oakland (near Rockridge and the Berkeley border).

FLOOR PLAN

Please see the floorplan diagram in the PHOTOS section of this listing. To enter your studio, you’ll first walk through my back door and my living room. But once inside your studio, you’ll have your own private kitchenette and bathroom (with a full bathtub).

The back door (where you enter) is on the opposite side of the house from my room and office. So, you can come and go any time of day, 24/7, and it won't disturb me. Again, see the floorplan.

When the weather is nice, you can enjoy my private fenced backyard, which has a table and two chairs.

FEATURES

In the main room of your studio (150 square feet), you'll enjoy 10' high ceilings. You'll find a comfy queen-sized bed, desk, bureau, and closet.

The bed consists of mattress and box spring. The mattress contains memory foam and is very comfortable.

In the second room, there's a kitchenette with a sink, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, and 2-burner induction stove. The kitchenette has its own window, but it does not have a hood to remove smoke. So if you make a lot of smoke when frying foods, please look for another rental.

ABOUT EMFS

To give your laptop the fastest connection (and also reduce EMFs), I'll provide you with an Ethernet cable and Ethernet/USB adapter.

You can also use my high speed wifi anytime. All I ask is that you press the "Wifi off" button on the router when you're asleep or away from home, and put your phone on airplane mode when you're asleep. High speed Internet is an extra $44/month.

UTILITIES

You won’t need to activate utilities in your own name. Rent includes water and trash pickup. There’s a $44/month fee for high speed Internet - whether you choose wifi or ethernet.

If the heat from my furnace is enough for you, then gas & electric are included in your rent. If you use an electric heater or electric blanket (either yours or one I can provide), there’s a $50/month fee for the additional electricity usage.

QUIETNESS

Most studios nearby are ground floor apartments. So while those studios have fully private entrances, you'll probably hear footsteps on your ceiling from people "walking on your head".

This studio is on the top floor. So you'll never hear upstairs footsteps on your ceiling, which can be a drag very early in the morning or late at night!

That said, you may hear muffled kitchen noises and occasional singing and piano playing (1 to 2 hours per week). When my assistant is cooking or cleaning for me, you may also hear muffled conversations coming from our kitchen.

The earliest I ever use my kitchen is 8am, although that's rare. (Usually it's closer to 9am.) The latest is 8pm.

If you are noise-sensitive and don't want to hear muffled kitchen noises, singing, piano playing, or conversations during waking hours (8am to 10pm), then please look for another rental.

NEIGHBORHOOD

My building is in a safe and quiet part of Oakland, minutes from Berkeley and Rockridge (an upscale neighborhood with great ethnic restaurants.)

This area is very flat, so it's easy to bike around town... and you can borrow my extra bike while you're here.

The UC Berkeley campus is about 2 miles away. If you want to take a bus there, you can catch the AC transit bus one block from my house. It's also an easy bike ride (2 miles away). And there's a secure utility room on the ground floor where you can store your bike, if you have one.

My building is about 1 mile from the nearest BART subway stations (Ashby or Rockridge), and a little more than a mile from Whole Foods and the locally famous Berkeley Bowl.

If you walk 3 blocks east to Telegraph Ave and turn north, you'll find:

Addis Ethiopian Restaurant
Saysetha Thai Restaurant
Oriental BBQ
Nude Sushi
Cafe Colucci (Ethiopian Restaurant)
Pizza Hut
Nick's Pizza
57th St Gallery (jazz night club)
Nomad Cafe
Jumpin' Java Cafe

If you walk 7 blocks south -- to the Temescal neighborhood -- you can enjoy:

Peet's Coffee
Abesha Ethiopian Restaurant
Juhu Beach Club (Indian Restaurant)
Temescal Produce Market
La Calaca Loca Taqueria
Genova (Italian) Delicatessen
Round Table Pizza
The Cheese Shop
Asmara Ethiopian Restaurant
The Mixing Bowl (Coffeehouse)
Pico Paco Tacqueria
Tanjia Moroccan Cuisine
Barlata Tapas Bar
Sura Korean Barbecue
Tara's Organic Ice Cream

There are also two Farmers Market's in walking distance. Every Tuesday from 2 - 6:30pm, you can walk to the South Berkeley Farmers Market. And every Sunday from 10am-1pm, you can walk to the Temescal Farmers Market. Both are VERY festive, with a variety of live musicians, music groups, and vendors selling freshly made ethnic food.

GETTING AROUND

The AC Transit bus (which stops one block from my house) can take you to the subway station, the grocery store, or the UC Berkeley campus.

By car, you'll be about 8 minutes from the Bay Bridge. There's plenty of space to park on our street, and no permit is required.

For your personal laundry, there are two door-to-door laundry services nearby that will pick up your laundry, wash, dry, fold, and return it the next day... Magic Laundry and J&L Laundry. Two weeks of laundry is about $30.

I provide the first roll of paper towels and toilet paper. However, once you move in, I no longer provide these supplies. I don't provide dish washing liquid, sponges, trash bags, or similar supplies either.

IS THIS A GOOD FIT FOR YOU?

There's only one queen sized bed. If you want to stay here with a friend, that's OK as long as you're comfortable sharing one bed.

Since I work at home, I like having a quiet space. Therefore, young children who might cry or scream are not a good fit.

ABOUT YOUR ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE DATES

I prefer renting to people who book the suite for entire *calendar* months (i. e from the 1st day of any month to the last day of any month).

The security deposit is the same as one month's rent. There's also 1-time cleaning fee when you leave. It can range from $75 to $175, depending on how messy/clean you leave the place. My cleaning lady charges $25/hour.

1 cat is OK with an additional $800 pet deposit. Absolutely no dogs.
