Roommate For 2 Br Brooklyn Apt W/ Garden

Ad ref# 101872876

The apartment:

I am looking for a lovely female/queer/non-binary person to share a hip, artsy, Brooklyn brownstone garden apartment. The apartment has a large private garden, and a large sunny kitchen. It?s a wonderful neighborhood; close to many major subway lines at 7th Avenue (B, Q), Bergen Street (2, 3), Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center and a short walk to Clinton-Washington (A, C); many, many bus lines & the LIRR. You can be in the city in 15 minutes. There?s also tons of bars, restaurants, coffeeshops, and retail close by.

What you get:

An unfurnished private bedroom with a closet, and a garden-facing office with windows and lots of light. The bedroom doesn?t have windows, but there?s indirect light from the common space.

About me:

I am a South Asian/POC, queer-identified artist, writer and educator. I enjoy socializing in the apartment on occasion ? but NOT during the pandemic. I have been self-quarantining and pretty strict about not having people over. If I do see people, it?s only outside the apartment. That said, I am super selective about going out and who I see. I wear a mask at all times, and maintain social distancing as much as possible too. I would expect anyone who I co-habit with to do the same, until it?s safe to do otherwise.

I enjoy having a drink/meal with my roommate once in a while, but I am also quite private when I?m at home. My home is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of New York; it?s where I wind down and find my quiet time to make art, write, cook, contemplate gardening, or watch a movie.

I cook about twice or thrice a week, and I?m currently learning how to be a better plant parent (!) My studio/workspace is also in the apartment, in the basement. I use environmentally friendly and non-toxic materials.

Currently, I am working from home, although I am scheduled to be back at work in-person after Labor Day.

What I am looking for:

A considerate, peace-loving female (or female-identified) who is queer, anti-racism, and anti-Trump. I generally ask to speak to a past roommate for a reference, and will happily share a past roommate reference with you too.

I ask that you are clean and tidy in the common spaces, but I?m OK with a dish or two in the sink on occasion. We all get lazy or overly busy sometimes. I am looking for a chilled out vibe, so if you have major dishes-in-the-sink pet peeves, read no further.

What I can?t do:

Couples or pets. OK with a partner staying overnight once or twice a week, and the occasional overnight guest, but I?m not looking for a third roommate. During COVID, I expect there to be openness and transparency on both our ends about anyone visiting/staying.

Furnishing:

Your own. The common area (kitchen/dining) is partially furnished, but your bedroom and garden office are not.

Financials:

You will be a co-signer on the lease, which includes a security deposit and first month?s rent [no brokerage!!!!]. You will also be required to pay up to a $50 fee to get your credit checked.

The lease starts on July 1, 2020, but since I haven?t found anyone yet, it can start any time after July 1.

You pay half the rent which is $1325 (slightly negotiable) and half the utilities which is about $150/month for gas, electricity and WIFI (but it could be slightly more or less depending on the usage).

The security deposit is $1325 (non-negotiable).

COVID-related viewing guidelines:

If you like the sound of me and the apartment, then get in touch. We can have a chat on the phone, followed by a video call in which I walk you through the apartment so you can see it virtually and get a sense of the space.

I would prefer to meet you for the first time outside the apartment, social distancing of course. If we like each other?s vibe then we can walkover to see the place. Masking up is a must. This last step only applies if we are both super serious and think this could work out.
