2 rooms available in Woodside/ Astoria
Hello, I have an available bedroom in a great 3 br apartment on the Astoria side of Woodside. I just put down a deposit with the owner, who lives below, for a June 1 move in. It's a 3 bedroom/ 1.5 bath apartment on the second (top) floor, with a private entrance. There is a small kitchen and a nice size living area with a large skylight above. The available bedrooms is medium sized (can fit a full size bed, nightstand, and dresser), each with a closet, window, and access to a small balcony looking out the back. The place won't be furnished but I will be bringing some items for the kitchen and living space, and hopefully we can fill it out collectively. There's also a very small yard in the front.
The apartment is on a quiet, beautiful tree-lined street, just around the corner from a large grocery store, CVS, laundry, corner stores, and restaurants. The Northern Blvd R/M stop is two blocks away, and it's a short walk from Steinway in Astoria. Everything you need on a daily basis seems to be very accessible here. For those who are unfamiliar with the city, I should note that this is not an area filled with the young professional transplant types, so it's a better fit for those who are not looking to gentrify and who will be respectful of the community that is here.
Water is included in rent but we will split heat, electricity and wifi. The owner allows pets, and I'm planning to adopt a dog after moving in. A second pet might be okay as long as they get along. Each tenant will be on the year-long lease. I'm hoping to find two long-term renters to live with, but will consider a summer sublet situation for those who are looking, since it's that time of year. The available rooms are $775 each, and I'll be paying $845 because the half bathroom is in my room (total rent is $2395).
I'm a 25 year old soon to be law student at CUNY and will be teaching/ tutoring through the summer. I'm originally from PA but went to college in NYC and have lived in Austin and Somaliland since. I'm going to focus on immigrant rights and nondiscrimination in law school, and am pretty passionate about these topics. I also love reading, art, and cooking, and love sharing meals with roommates. I speak a little bit of Spanish and Arabic and am hoping to keep improving. I've lived in a lot of house/apartment share situations and usually find it to be a great way to meet new people. I like to keep common areas pretty clean and expect roommates to generally clean up after themselves, especially in the kitchen since it's small and will get cluttered easily. Guests are cool, but I don't think this should be a party house, and preferably overnight guests will only be occasional and people you know pretty well. I'll keep the same standards. Other than that, just looking for someone responsible, considerate, friendly, and punctual with bills. I usually like to be friendly with roommates and socialize occasionally, but whatever your situation is is fine. Doesn't matter what you do or how you identify but home should be a sanctuary of tolerance, inclusive feminism, and anti-racism.
