Large Room in Brand New Apartment on Quiet Street

ABOUT THE UNIT

The apartment is in a brand new building. My previous roommate (who left to be closer to family) and I were the first tenants in the unit so everything is still in excellent condition. The unit itself is very spacious, about 1200 square feet. The available room is the second bedroom (about 120 square feet). While the second bathroom is not accessible directly from your room, it is just across the hall and I am willing to have any guests of mine use only the master if you feel strongly about having a private bathroom.

The unit faces a tree lined residential street with a church. The unit is on the second highest floor, but the top floor does not extend to my side of the hallway, so there are no units above mine or the two on either side of me. The kitchen is quite sizable, about 80 square feet, and it's square so there's plenty of space for cooking. It has a ton of cabinet and counter space and all the basic appliances (full size refrigerator, gas stove/oven, microwave, toaster, and dishwasher). I've fully furnished the living/dining room, which will be freely available for you to use. The unit also has its own washer and dryer.

The building has a live-in super and responsive maintenance. The other residents in the building are nice and respectful as well. Like most apartment buildings, the walls aren't exactly soundproof, but I've never had an issue with noise. The apartment building has a small onsite gym, a resident's lounge, and a large courtyard with grills and lounge chairs. The building is within walking distance of the Valley Stream train station (about 0.4 miles) and there is parking available right under the station with a small annual fee ($30) for a resident parking pass.

The quoted rent is all inclusive. For $1500, you will have a private room and bathroom (if desired), a parking space in the garage, access to all common areas of the building, free use of the furnished living room, kitchen, and laundry room, and water, heat, AC, electric, gas, cable, phone, and internet are all included.

ABOUT ME

When I'm at home, I'm generally on the computer, reading, or cooking. If I'm not at home, I'm usually at work (as a software engineer) or the dance studio. I've been dancing since I was five years old and over the years I've taken ballet/pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, modern, and Irish step. I also like trying new restaurants and activities in the area with friends. I moved here after college, so I'm still exploring everything LI has to offer. I am a bit of a homebody, so I'm just as likely to want to spend time with friends staying in and hanging out as I am to want to go out.

I'm fairly sensitive to noise. I don't care about noise during the day as long as it isn't excessive (I'd prefer not to annoy the neighbors), but I need virtual silence at night to sleep. The walls aren't so thin you couldn't make any noise in your room, but I would need someone who'd be willing to use headphones or turn the television/computer/conversati on down a bit at night. I'm also a bit of a night owl, so I usually don't sleep until midnight or later, so noise before then is completely fine. On the plus side, for other light sleepers I know how frustrating it can be to be unable to sleep for noise related reasons, so I will extend the same courtesy. I will be as quiet as you need me to be during your sleeping hours even if they differ from my own.

I also like to keep my apartment secured. While I heavily researched the area and surrounding towns and picked a very safe one, I still prefer to take common sense precautions to prevent any issues. I keep both locks locked at all times and my alarm system is always on. I also refrain from bringing any strangers home. You would be absolutely free to bring guests over, but please do not bring anyone you do not know and cannot personally vouch for home.

Finally, I value respectfulness most in myself and my roommate. I would expect to be able to discuss and successfully resolve any issues that might occur. I tend to default to a more conservative approach. In other words, instead of us both assuming something is allowed until a problem occurs, we should both clarify what the other is okay with and initially assume nothing is allowed. I think that is generally the best way to ensure everyone feels comfortable.

ABOUT YOU

My ideal roommate would be a woman within 10-15 years of my age (25). I'd prefer someone who prefers socializing in small groups (i. e. isn't a big partier). I personally don't drink and while it doesn't matter to me if anyone else does, I am unlikely to get along well with someone who gets drunk often. She can be messy, but not dirty. Personally, I am incredibly disorganized (though I tend to keep it confined to my bedroom), so I'm just fine with clutter. I am not fine with the apartment getting dirty. I clean it as needed (i. e. spills are cleaned immediately and the apartment gets vacuumed and the bathrooms are cleaned every week or two) and I would like a roommate who does the same.

Mostly importantly, my ideal roommate is generally respectful of others. Any new roommate situation is an adjustment, but any potential disagreements can be resolved much more quickly with mutual respect and consideration.
